Job Summary: The Behaviorist is responsible for participating in the Social Emotional Learning programs on campus; supporting teachers in developing Behavior Plans for Student Study Teams (SST); participating in SST meetings with parents/guardians and teacher; providing behavior support services across the organization, lead student citizenship and social emotional clubs; assist in the training of the behavior team across the organization; provide excellent customer service to scholars, parents/guardians and school personnel; consistently follows routine Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) procedures and maintains a high standard of order and safety to ensure the safety and well-being of scholars and staff. Knowledge and use of restorative practices is a significant component of this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites:

  • Organize and support administrator in coordinating the social emotional learning (SEL) program on campus.
  • Create and monitor the implementation of Behavior Plans for scholars to ensure the plan is followed to fidelity.
  • Assist administrators and teachers by providing suggestions for improving behavior for scholars through the SST process.
  • Meet with administrators/teachers to discuss the implementation of the Behavior Plan.
  • Support the administrator in training the behavior team by 1.) Assisting and supporting the behavior team in teaching scholars social emotional learning (SEL) strategies. 2.) Assisting and supporting behavior team in leading character discussions with scholars on: Responsibility, Respect, Citizenship, Fairness, Caring, Trustworthiness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of:
  • De-escalation strategies, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) procedures, restorative practices; writing and implementation of Behavior Contracts; implementation of replacement behaviors to demonstrate scholar growth.
Skills and Abilities to:
  • Create a safe, friendly and collaborative environment. Communicate, articulate and carry out instructions. Inform supervisor of any needs and concerns; carry out oral and written instructions; communicate with diverse groups; work as part of a team; be punctual and present. Learn and enforce school rules in areas of responsibility; maintain positive relationship with scholars, families and staff; deal tactfully and effectively with scholars, families and staff; work independently and make decisions within the framework of established guidelines; keep records and maintain reports adhere to safety practices; be proactive.
Education and Experience:
  • B.A. in Applied Behavioral Science, Sociology, Social Services, Psychology
  • 3-5 years experience as a Behaviorist, Behavior Specialist or Behavior Technician
  • CPR and First Aid preferred
  • Experience working in a public school setting
  • Experience in youth-related activities (coaching, camp counselor, community youth groups)
Working Environment:
  • Hearing and speaking to conduct group training, exchange information in person electronically and over the telephone.
  • Ability to read printed material and computer screens. Ability to understand speech at normal levels.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies.
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.
