Job Description

Fortune Brands Innovations is seeking a Technical Accounting Lead to manage the accounting and reporting of technical accounting matters with a primary focus on leases, employee benefits, derivatives, debt, etc. As part of the Corporate Accounting team, this position will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements. This role requires a strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, attention to detail and excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with Treasury, business units and other disciplines within the company. 

Position location: This role is designated as a hybrid role which includes working at least 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in our main office located in Deerfield, IL to foster better collaboration, connection, and innovation.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Review and analyze lease agreements to determine the appropriate accounting treatment. Record lease data in the accounting system. Collaborate with business units to ensure accurate and timely recording of monthly lease accounting entries.
• Manage the accounting and reporting of pension and other postretirement benefits for the company. Partner closely with Treasury and business units to ensure proper accounting.
• Lead the accounting and reporting related to the company’s derivative and debt transactions. Partner closely with Treasury and business units to provide accounting leadership in complex accounting issues.
• Prepare financial statement disclosures related to leases, pension/OPEB, derivative financial instruments, debt, etc., including the quarterly and annual disclosures and disclosure checklists for 10-Q and 10-K
• Implement, execute, and maintain internal controls related to the accounting for lease, employee benefits, derivative financial instruments and debt to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
• Identify and implement continuous process improvements to streamline the monthly/quarterly close process.
• Assist in other financial reporting / technical accounting projects.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including experience in technical accounting and/or financial reporting.
• CPA is required.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software, especially Lease Software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree 
• Experience in public accounting
