The Massage Therapist is responsible to plan, organize, and provide medically prescribed massage therapy that creates a caring and safe environment, addresses the comfort needs of patients, and positively impacts the patients’ health status, feeling of wellness, and/or quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ascertain whether individuals qualify for massage therapy.
• Designing care based on therapeutic goals to improve clients' psychological, physical, and social health.
• Providing massage therapy sessions.
• Evaluate patient's functional status and assess patient's response to massage.
• Develops, administers and coordinates massage care in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Educates the hospice staff about the role of massage therapy and the use of massage therapy intervention with hospice patients and staff.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of massage care.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Director of Nursing (DON) and administrative team.
• Understands Hospice philosophy and issues of death and dying.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
• Completes patient documentation on time.
• Attends in-service and staff meetings as needed.
• Completes assigned training on time.
• Completes annual education requirements.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• • Current CPR certification.• Valid state driver’s license and reliable automobile.• Proof of current automobile insurance.• Current TB test.• Criminal background check.
• Knowledge of and ability to utilize a wide variety of massage techniques.
• Knowledge of the hospice philosophy of care.
• Compassion and empathy for patients.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the geriatric and adult population.
• Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with patients, families and staff.
• Ability to interact within a team and coordinate with family members, patients and the entire team of care.
