Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Jobs for Americas Graduates (JAG Teacher)
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet AR licensure requirements.
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 200 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific JAG competencies through classroom instruction.
  • Teaches through a variety of methods including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching.
  • Tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student, and implements an intervention strategy for each individual.
  • Ensures an appropriate pool of students by obtaining referrals from the school counselor, school personnel, and parents; holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program.
  • Administers testing programs including pre-/post-tests and career interest surveys; establishes and implements a career development plan for all enrolled students.
  • Ensures positive perceptions of the JAG program within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teachers, administrators, students, and members of the JAG Advisory Committee.
  • Builds appreciation for teamwork, sense of belonging, and commitment to community service among JAG students by organizing and serving as advisor to a JAG Career Association; creates training opportunities through hands-on activities.
  • Provides students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis; takes responsibility for learning and complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, and the like.
  • Complies with all documentation requirements in a timely fashion including contacts and activities involving students, employers, and other groups; develops and maintains a well-organized filing system.
  • Assists coordinator with finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs upon graduation; works closely with coordinator to ensure students have satisfactory employment outcomes.
  • Participates in staff, regional, and statewide meetings, and staff development activities.
  • Completes and coordinates special projects and research assignments.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and staff.
  • Acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Provide guidance, support, referral and tutorial services to ensure students stay in high school and complete graduation requirements.
  • Evaluates student abilities in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Effectively implement district initiatives.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Remain current on instructional practices in education.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, and squatting.
