Skilled Laborer- Civil

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Skilled Laborer Civil is responsible for performing construction maintenance tasks of a skilled nature: finishing concrete, laying bricks and blocks, and operating vehicles and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantles forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, bolts or form hardware,
  • Dig ditches and levels earth to grade specifications, using pick, shovels and rakes,
  • Score and break asphalt or concrete with a jackhammer,
  • Spreading gravel, asphalt and other materials over surfaces,
  • Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials,
  • Installation of erosion and sediment controls (i.e. silt fence, super silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.),
  • Participates in demolitions,
  • Erects and disassembles scaffolding, braces, barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures,
  • Erects concrete forms and scaffolding,
  • Apply waterproofing and sealant to protect concrete work,
  • Moving materials to the worksite and ensuring all tools, machinery, and other equipment are safely set up,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required,
  • Must have 2 years of experience working in heavy highway construction,
  • Complete understanding of OSHA and company safety requirements,
  • Ability to kneel, bend and lift heavy materials,
  • Ability to measure accurately and read specifications,
  • Good communication skills,
  • Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general street maintenance and construction work.,
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices of pouring and finishing concrete,
  • OSHA 30 preferred,
  • Flagger License desired,
  • COVID-19, vaccination is highly recommended, 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening
