Purpose: The Special Services Coordinator, under the guidance of the Director of Special Services, assists in the design, development, and coordination of special education programs and services for individuals with exceptionalities, including students supported under a 504 Plan. The Coordinator observes, consults with, and assists administration, special education staff, related service providers, and general education classroom teachers with instructional, behavioral, IEP, and evaluation development and planning. Through communication and on-site support to building level administrators the Coordinator assists in the operations and compliance of special education programs and services (including 504 Plans) in conformance to District, State and Federal regulations.

Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience


Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • One of the following Kansas License Endorsements:
    • Special Education Supervisor/Coord
    • Building or Program Leadership
    • Building Administration with special education endorsement
    • Special education director (AD) endorsement
  • Knowledge of Special Education programs from preschool through grade twelve
  • Knowledge of current Special Education trends and mandates
  • Master level or graduate level coursework in the education of students with exceptional needs
  • Experience with functional behavior assessments, development of behavioral plans and training and use of emergency behavioral interventions
  • Experience and training in curriculum, instruction, and classroom management and interventions techniques appropriate for students with expectational needs
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Able to read, analyze, process, and interpret data independently
  • Hold a high level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to analyze, develop, and offer alternative solutions to a variety of complex situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with exceptionalities (as a teacher, related service provider, school psychologist and/or school administration)
  • Experience in the development and successful implementation of interventions, accommodations, modifications, and/or supports for identified students through either an IEP, 504 Plan, or Tiered Interventions
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful administrative and management experience and/or experience in training and staff development
  • Crisis Intervention Training


Essential Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Support and coordinate special education services and programs in buildings to help ensure the implementation of best practices in instruction, behavioral interventions such as BIPs (Behavioral Intervention Plans)
  • Plan, develop, and deliver professional development to general and special education building staff, district and building general education administrators on such topics as special education legal requirements and processes, co-teaching, collaboration, effective instructional strategies behavioral interventions, transitions, and special education procedures under IDEA.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration. Act as a support and contact for families of students receiving special education services.

  • Administrate the implementation of all district policies and/or rules governing students' life and conduct.
  • Review existing and pending legislation related to procedural guidelines for district special education programs and practices and provide recommendations
  • Assist as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative or member of an IEP team as directed by the Director of Special Services
  • Facilitate and supervise the delivery of special education services by para educators
  • Monitor the exceptionality numbers across the district
  • Make recommendations relative to the selection of new staff and placement of special education personnel
  • Helps co-plan, present, and attend special education staff meetings and the district’s annual Classified Academy
  • Oversee and monitor student completion and staff training for the Alternative State Assessment.
  • Identify instructional techniques and strategies that improve the achievement of special education students in both special education and general education classes; conducts professional development activities; provides classroom support.
  • Develop, implement and revise behavior and instructional plans for identified student in accordance with bets practice methodologies and procedures; provide ongoing monitoring of behavior and instruction programs,
  • Plans, designs, and implements mandates as well as prepare documents and reports related to state and federal legislative compliance.
  • Coordinate the allocation of teaching and support staff to school sites and programs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee Extended School Year services.

  • Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.


Terms of Employment:
At-will employment. 12-month contract for the duration of the fiscal year (July 1-June 30) with continued employment available.
