Fort Bend Independent School District is Hiring a Teacher ESL Middle School 2024-2025 Near Sugar, TX
DescriptionJob Overview The Teacher ESL Middle School will provide English language arts and reading instruction, provide English language development, and accelerate English language proficiency for English language learners (ELLs) participating in ELL programs using the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) through the application of sheltered instruction strategies. Any teacher who will coach a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that athletic sport and the athletic program.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Development
Develop and implement lesson plans, both individually and in collaboration with classroom teachers that meet the District’s and TEA’s curricular requirements (TEKS and ELPS)
Develop and implement lessons, both individually and in collaboration with classroom teachers that are linguistically accommodated and differentiated commensurate to language proficiency level
Provide instruction to ELLs in a pull-out or an inclusionary classroom setting commensurate to language proficiency level
Use student data systematically and routinely to guide instructional decisions to meet English Learner’s needs
Assess English language learners’ linguistic abilities as related to desired educational goals
Monitor student progress consistently through TELPAS and other formative and summative evaluation and use results to plan linguistically appropriate instruction
Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available digital tools to enhance learning
Manage instructional settings and other parts of a campus to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process
Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, safe and conducive to learning and that materials are in good condition and are linguistically accessible to students
Adhere to district guidelines regarding allotted language instruction time
Participate as a member of the campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) as required
Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures surrounding the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC)
Maintain appropriate student’s documentation according to state and district guidelines
Administer appropriate assessments to measure language proficiency according to state and district guidelines
Collaboration
Collaborate with other professionals to carry out school wide instructional or related activities for English language learners
Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to ensure student's linguistic and instructional needs are being met
Establish and maintain oral and written communication on instructional expectations with parents, students, principals, and teachers to keep them informed of student progress
Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings as required or appropriate to assignment
Implement new learning from professional development activities correlated with accelerating English language proficiency for ELLs
Be an advocate for and ensure that English language learners have an equitable educational opportunity
May, as itinerant, serve at two or more schools on a regular basis
May make off-school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or site instructors
If the position is tied to coaching a UIL sport, the following essential duties and responsibilities are applicable to coaching:
Perform coaching duties as assigned as well as other duties required for the smooth, efficient operation of a successful athletic program
Possess knowledge and adheres to UIL rules and regulations
Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, care/use of facilities
Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis
QualificationsQualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Bachelor's Degree in education including course work in the subject/program to which assigned and in curriculum and instructional methodology
Master's Degree preferred
Valid Teaching Certification Issued by Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment
Valid Texas ESL Certification
Valid Driver's license with CDL Certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with ELLs
secondary education experience preferred
Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport
Demonstrated knowledge of FBISD program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals and organization
Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned
Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development or, if applicable, adult learning theory
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
Strong oral and written communication skills
If teaching a foreign language, proficiency in oral and written communication in that language; if teaching choral music, ability to demonstrate proper techniques (singing) is highly desirable; if teaching instrumental music classes, proficiency in one or more musical instruments; for both choral and instrumental music teachers, excellent hearing and ability to determine pitch and tone variations; if teaching in a vocational trade, including business trades, journey-level proficiency in that trade is with on the job journey, lead, or supervisory experience highly desirable
