DescriptionJob Overview The Aide Behavior Support District Wide position will provide behavioral support to special education students who are exhibiting problematic behaviors and/or who need one-to-one classroom support. The incumbent will gather data and collaborate with LSSPs, special education teachers and other district specialists in analyzing the data to assist in the development of functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIP). The incumbent will service the District at various locations.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in implementation of behavior intervention plan and strategies
Assist in supporting instruction
Assist in maintaining classroom environment conducive to teaching and learning
Collect student data in response to interventions and collaborate with LSSPs, special education teachers, and other district specialists in analyzing the data to assist in the development of functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIP)
Provide training to other Aides, as needed
Maintain records, files and other pertinent documents on each student
File various documents in students' folders
Communicate student needs to faculty and staff
Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty and staff
Escort students to different locations in the building
Assist students during special education transportation if needed and implement behavior strategies
Monitor students during various activities during the school day
QualificationsQualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Minimum of 48 college hours or passing score on the ETS ParaPro assessment prior to first day of employment
Valid Texas Drivers License
Texas Educational Aide Certification must obtain within 10 days of hire
Minimum of 3 years of work experience with children with severe behavioral challenges in specialized settings (self-contained program in public schools, residential or hospital settings, non-public day schools, private school, clinics, etc.)
Basic computer skills
Organizational skills
Ability to communicate effectively and following instructions, both orally and in writing
Ability to work with students with disabilities and may exhibit severe behavior challenges without direct supervision
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information
Work will be done in a variety of settings as indicated by the needs of the students. Frequent travel to various locations in the District is required. Assignments require the employee to work with identified students in community settings. Must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and lift and/or move up to 100 plus pounds with assistance. Standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling may be required in this position. Must be able to handle situations that may be volatile or stressful at times. Ability to see close up, at a distance and peripherally, ability to lift and carry 50 lbs, ability to maneuver wheelchairs, walkers or other wheeled apparatus, ability to physically restrain disruptive students, ability to reach above the head or straight out from body, ability to stand continuously for at least 30 minutes, ability to use hands in performing certain tasks, such as diaper changing, feeding, and helping with life skills.
