A Lower School Instructional Assistant is a full-time employee who is passionate about supporting the students and teachers of the Lower School as they live out Forsyth Country Day School’s mission of preparing our students for what’s ahead. The Lower School Instructional Assistant will be responsible for helping the lead classroom teachers foster growth in all domains of student development. Instructional Assistants will conduct small group literacy and math lessons and will be responsible for planning and executing these lessons with the consultation of the lead classroom teachers. Instructional Assistants are committed to growth as professionals and individuals, and value and respect every member of the community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children’s learning and growth

• Support student performance in all areas of development: social/emotional, literacy, math

• Plan and execute small group lessons using FCDS curriculum standards

• Attend grade-level meetings and division meetings

• Support appropriate instruction in line with the school standards, curriculum, and student needs

• Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport

• Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with colleagues, students, and families based on trust, understanding, and respect

• Manage student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies

• Attend Professional Development

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Minimum two years of teaching

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds

• Must be able to sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.

• Must be able to operate a computer and have basic knowledge of Google Workspace

• Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed

• Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively
