Role Description

The Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Prototype Design team, within our Cell Engineering organization in Berkeley, CA. As a part of the Prototype Design team, you will closely partner with our Cell Design and Systems Engineering teams to iterate upon new design concepts on our prototype module production line in CA. You will leverage your creativity and prototyping expertise to realize never before imagined concepts that blend multiple disciplines of engineering, chemistry, and physics.

This role's primary focus will be to create small quantities of novel design concepts, but success in the role will require frequent travel to Form Headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as Form Factory 1 in West Virginia to understand the product and manufacturing process, support implementation of designs, and maintain continuity of knowledge. What you'll do:

• Lead the prototyping efforts for first of a kind component and module level concepts

• Collaborate with the Cell Design, Systems Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to generate functional requirements and validate new design concepts

• Design and commission pilot scale cell assembly production equipment and tooling

• Coordinate with our Supply Chain team to outsource high volume procurement of parts and hardware for our test vehicles and equipment

• Work with manufacturing engineers and technicians on our Build teams to transition prototype designs to standard test vehicles

• Conduct DFMEAs and failure analyses on production parts and assembly processes

What you'll bring:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 4 years, or Master's with industry experience in mechanical design

• Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting

• Strong working knowledge of a wide variety of fabrication methodologies for plastics and metals. Hands-on machine shop proficiency is a strong plus.

• Experience with the design of experiments and data-driven validation of novel concepts

• Experience influencing, communicating, and collaborating with engineering and business functions
