Job Overview

The Software Engineer position involves interacting with a variety of individuals internally and externally and at all levels of the organization. Candidate must be driven, organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate for this position has extensive front-end development experience working with JavaScript frameworks (foreUP uses Vue and Backbone) and has some object-oriented full stack development experience and/or a willingness to learn it.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Ability to work with modern and legacy JavaScript front-end frameworks.
• Ability to take an idea from concept to reality in an iterative and highly releasable manner.
• Ability to take design documents and turn them into functional code.
• Ability to work independently and with other members of the team, including Quality Assurance engineers.
• Comfortable refactoring/understanding legacy code and moving towards open standards.
• Comfortable with writing, editing, and maintaining unit/feature tests.
• Structured, disciplined approach to development, testing, and deployment.
• There is direct project oversight, but you are expected to take ownership of your work and your projects, establish deadlines, and communicate progress proactively.
• Manage time across multiple projects and tasks in a deadline-driven, team environment.
• Ability to analyze issues discovered/reported by QA and Customer Success and deliver solutions to problem areas.
• Self-management and time management are critical in this role.
• Proficient in communicating technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience Desired

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or similar preferred; or equivalent work experience
• 2 years of front-end development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (foreUP uses Vue), Backbone, HTML5, jQuery, SASS & CSS
• PHP development experience using modern Frameworks (Symfony, Laravel, etc.) is a plus
• Familiarity with Chrome Developer Tools for diagnosing, assessing and resolving software bugs
• Experience working with AWS and cloud-based web applications is a plus
• Experienced with Jira and Agile environments
