JOB SUMMARY: The Vice President, Sustainable Finance is responsible for working with the commercial lending businesses on new business development opportunities, proposing, integrating, and developing strategies to promote sustainability in our lending business and working to build a more robust sustainability tracking, monitoring, technology and modeling capability. This role is vital in the implementation of integrating ESG, climate and other sustainability considerations into lending decisions and the representation of Forbright's sustainable finance capabilities to customers and external stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Represent Forbright's Sustainable Finance initiatives at conferences, peer sustainability networks, to investors and as a part of sustainability-aligned business opportunities
  • Serve as a Sustainable Finance subject matter expert, grounded in key issues, best practices, policies, trends and market opportunities
  • Advise underwriting teams in Sustainable Finance/ESG due diligence & documentation from loan screening to ongoing management
  • Review Sustainable Finance and ESG assessments across all OLC memos to ensure consistency in application of RI policy
    • Participate in OLC and DLC meetings, as applicable
    • Identify elevated risk and escalate through the Chief Sustainability Officer / ESG Risk Sub-committee
  • Manage annual review of ESG Due Diligence Toolkit and Sustainable Finance Framework, including supporting the integration of climate risk into Forbright's lending practices
  • In coordination with the Chief Lending Officers, source loan opportunities that align with Forbright's lending initiatives including sustainable loans, CRA-eligible loans and opportunities that promote collaboration across business lines
  • Work closely with originations teams to develop sustainability strategies across existing lending verticals and advise underwriting teams on the structuring of loans to meet Forbright's "Sustainable" criteria
  • Support Sustainability team on strategic initiatives at the intersection of sustainability and finance, including the development of an ESG software solution
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year, accredited institution required
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in professional services and/or financial services preferred
  • Lending and/or underwriting experience preferred
  • Highly motivated business professional, able to thrive in small-team environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to express ideas in a persuasive, organized, and articulate manner
  • Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • An ability to synthesize information from various sources and comprehend multiple, distinct points of views on any given topic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels in the organization
