Food Matters Markets Inc is Hiring a CAFE / DELI MANAGER Near Morganton, NC

Description

Summary

The Deli Manager oversees production of the Deli Department to meet company goals for sales, margin, labor expense and customer service. They are accountable for ensuring a positive experience for customers as well as providing a safe, positive working environment for employees. This position requires adhering to all procedural guidelines to include company policy and all local, state, and federal compliances. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Food Service Operations

  • Ensure prompt, friendly, helpful customer service by deli staff.
  • Plan and implement systems for efficient food production.
  • Ensures deli department operates in compliance with health department regulations.
  • Oversees preparation of consistent deli offerings.
  • Establish record-keeping and pricing procedures, to meet margin goals and ensure accurate, up to date records of costs of production.
  • Establish proper storage and labeling procedures in accordance with health department and national organic regulations.
  • Research and recommend purchases of equipment and other large capital expenditures for department.
  • Maintain department equipment in working order. Troubleshoot problems and arrange for repairs. 

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in setting sales, margin and labor goals for department. Review financial reports of departments’ performance and take corrective action as needed.
  • Attend management team meetings and storewide meetings.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by General Manager.
  • Perform Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.
  • Assist customers in all departments, in prompt friendly courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Answer & route phone calls.
  • Maintain accurate records. Ability to work closely with others. Familiarity with natural foods. Excellent communication skills—good listener, clear instructions. Strong organizational skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Work with human resources to hire qualified applicants following established policy.
  • Ensure on-the-job training.
  • Conduct probationary, on-going and formal annual performance evaluations.
  • Take disciplinary action as needed following established policies.
  • Develop master schedule for Deli employees based on the needs of the department.
  • Organize meetings for staff as needed.
  • Ensure department staff is informed of storewide meetings and policy changes.
  • Ensure safe working practices and food safety training for department staff.
  • Supervises all café department staff

Requirements

Education, Credentials, Certification and/or Experience

  • High School education or GED preferred.
  • Experience managing a restaurant, deli, food service, or catering operation. Experience in food and labor cost control. Strong customer service background.
  • Computer Skills, Knowledge of Catapult is desired, Ability to read department financial reports. Ability to operate professional kitchen equipment.
  • Regular, predictable attendance.
  • Ability to smell for inspecting product, sanitation standards. Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment. 
  • Supervisory experience- hiring, training, taking disciplinary action, evaluating and directing work flow.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and organic products preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to give clear direction. Ability to speak to large groups of people at department meetings.

Working Environment

This position is exposed to dust, noise, and temperature extremes. There are possible equipment movement hazards; electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents. This is a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must be able to physically perform light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distance of less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • The following physical activities are necessary to perform this job: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
