Flying Bark Productions is Hiring a CG Layout Artist Near Sydney, FL

Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as the recently announced Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, Marvel Studios’ What If…?, Disney Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Flying Bark’s own 200% Wolf movie, and many others.

*Please note that a Layout/Previs focused Demo Reel is a requirement for this position, without it we will not be able to move forward with your application. We prefer links to YouTube or Vimeo, as we're not able to access links via Google Drive.*

Overview:

As a CG Layout Artist, you will work in collaboration with the Layout supervisor to establish the look and feel of the cameras and the environment of an animated sequence. You are the stylistic and technical eye of the entire shot and help determine the action (animation). In this role, you get to flex your creative muscles and actively participate in the storytelling process with an emphasis on cinematography.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Minimum requirement of 2 years production experience in 3D animated films and/or animated episodic; (Not live action, nor Matchmove)
  • A layout/previs focused demo reel that illustrates your relevant artistic and technical experience that also includes the nuances for this specific role; (This is not an animation role)
  • Experience and understanding of Maya in a production based environment;
  • A strong sense of composition, cinematic camera work, animation timing and narrative storytelling;
  • Knowledge of layout workflows, animation and CG camera lens information, camera rigs and cinematography;
  • Advanced visual skills of scale, proportion, point of view, perspective, size, color, form, composition, and depth of field;
  • Knowledge of the basics of animation;
  • Advanced knowledge of environments and landscapes;
  • Basic understanding of anatomy;

Role & responsibilities:

  • Translates storyboards/ sketches into 3D sequence of shots;
  • Determines camera composition, angles and movement;
  • Environment blocking and creating backgrounds that support the narrative of the story;
  • Creates basic blocking for all characters and props.
  • Setting the camera path & defining the perspective of a scene;
  • Ensuring continuity between shots;
  • Creates sequences of shots that convey the storyline, ensuring the vision of the Director and Layout Supervisor are resolved. 
  • May create rough pre-visualization models and environments to facilitate animation.

  • Ability to take direction from a Supervisor and be team oriented;
  • Ability to take and successfully interpret a verbal or visual creative brief
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment;
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines;
  • Ability to take direction and be flexible and responsive to change;
  • Ability to work independently as well as under direct supervision;
  • Fast problem solving and implementation of solutions.
