Employee: $32,760.00 - $65,520.00

The Position:

Position General Summary:

The Paraprofessional, Florida Scholars Academy is a valued member of the educational team, providing essential support to instructors, instructional leaders, and students within the juvenile justice system. This role involves working closely with instructors to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, assisting in classroom management, and providing individualized support to students.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Deliver feedback which contributes to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents/guardians, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the overall quality of feedback.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents/guardians, peers, and the community.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting their grading assignments as set forth by the Instructional Leader.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding in the curriculum of course that is being supported and the school-wide student performance goals.
  • Provide services in person at the assigned facility to meet the needs of students under the supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
  • Serve as an instructional facilitator or substitute at the discretion of the Instructional Leader.
  • Support other academic related topics established at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, Florida Scholars Academy, Regional Director, Florida Scholars Academy, or Instructional Leader, Florida Scholars Academy.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
  • All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college, two years of education from an accredited college or passing of any of the following examinations: CLAST (College Level Academic Skills Test), ETS Praxis Parapro, or another state-approved test

Experience:

  • One year of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage time

  • Ability to compile, review, categorize, prioritize, analyze, and interpret data and/or information

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Frequency of travel: Daily travel is required to the assigned residential facility. Frequent travel is required for meetings, training, and conferences; location may vary and may require overnight stays.
  • Light physical activities and efforts required working in an office environment
