Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice District is Hiring a Counselor / Social Worker / LPC / LMSW Near Covington, LA

Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center is looking for a full-time Clinician to join our amazing team! This is an unique opportunity to work hands-on with our youth for rehabilitation and teaching pro-social behaviors. We work in a cognitive behavioral setting (CBT) that promotes healthy conduct and provides a safe and secure environment for youth and staff, alike. We offer amazing benefits and a pro-employee atmosphere! Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day. Weekends and holidays off.

Starting Pay: $24.04 per hour!

OUR CLINICIAN / COUNSELOR / SOCIAL WORKER WILL:

  • Assess clinical needs of youth detainees upon intake, and develop treatment plans appropriate for the juvenile detention setting.
  • Conduct individual counseling of youth using supportive therapy and evidence-based practices as indicated.
  • Conduct group counseling sessions with youth using evidence-based interventions, educational group content, or to promote improved social skills.
  • Monitor behavioral trends of caseload youth, identifying risk factors (e.g., aggression, recidivism) and develop therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
  • Manage a caseload of youth detainees, maintain case records and coordinating care with interdisciplinary professionals across organizations.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary staffing for youth cases, and attend organizational meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Mediate disagreements between youth, in conjunction with other FPJDC staff.
  • Assist in the maintenance and ongoing development of the therapeutic aspects of the detention program and milieu.
  • Assess risk factors for suicidality among facility youth, and establish appropriate levels of suicide watch and safety programming for youth at risk.
  • Be available for a rotating on-call schedule (paid stipend), in the event assistance is required for assessing youth who may experience crisis (typically via phone call).
  • Provide ongoing communication with medical, educational, security and administrative staff as necessary to ensure continuity of care for youth.
  • Be attentive to changes in policies and procedures, therapeutic milieus, and other required training, under supervision of the Director of Programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Necessary Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

The position requires:

  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Knowledge of adolescent development;
  • Considerable and demonstrated skill in counseling and crisis intervention;
  • Having a resourceful and imaginative nature;
  • Being able to contribute to and function on a team of professional service providers; and
  • Taking direction well from administrative staff.

Special Considerations

Must exercise a high level of confidentiality in handling client records and privileged facility information.

Desirable Training and Experience

  • REQUIRED - Must be currently registered as a Licensed Professional Counselor or LMSW. Licensure in another branch of mental health, and/or Master's level graduates in Psychology may also be considered.
  • PREFERRED - Clinical experience and skills from working with adolescents in a shelter/group home, detention settings, and/or similar placements.
