Florida Immigration Law and Justice Center (formerly, Florida Justice For Our Neighbors) is a non-profit provider of high-quality immigration legal services to low-income immigrants at no or low cost throughout the state of Florida. Florida Immigration Law and Justice Center (Florida ILJ) also offers education to the public and engages in advocacy campaigns for immigrant’s rights. Job Description:
Florida ILJ is seeking to hire an experienced attorney to serve as staff attorney representing unaccompanied minors in all immigration-related matters, including state court proceedings predicate to SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status), removal defense, and all other relief available leading to lawful status. The ideal client will have demonstrated capacity to serve vulnerable populations in a client-centered capacity, taking the client's age, cultural-background, and trauma into consideration when providing legal representation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Screen and determine legal relief options available to all clients on a first-come, first served basis (universal representation model).
- Zealously represent minors before various agencies, including immigration court, ICE, USCIS, and state and federal courts.
- Prepare and maintain up to date records on all activities related to representations for reporting purposes.
- Participate in regular program-related meetings with stakeholders and other agencies, community partners, etc.
Qualifications:
- Active member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
- At least 1 year of previous immigration law experience, preferably with vulnerable populations.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
-Ability and willingness to occasionally work non-traditional work hours to accommodate client needs and schedules.
- Ability to travel within several locations in and around South Florida for meetings, hearings, etc.
- Spanish-speaking preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
- $75,000 annual salary.
- PTO of 15 vacation days, 19 holidays, and 5 sick days, annually.
- 403(b) Retirement plan with employer contribution (non-matching).
-Employer is enrolled in QSEHRA plan for health insurance reimbursements.
