POSITION SUMMARY:
A Medical Record Abstraction (MRA) Specialist is responsible for extracting information from a medical record that is relevant for proper risk adjustment coding and clinical care. The Medical Record Abstraction (MRA) Specialist will be responsible for building the chart recommendation patient health profile within the E.H.R. system and Chart Prep Database. They will work under the direction of their Administrator, Manager, and a physician lead to compile specific prospective chart summaries for the attending physicians’ review and use. This individual will need to become proficient in all computer functions required for this position and maintain confidentiality at all times. The Medical Record Abstraction (MRA) Specialist presents a team-oriented, professional image, and appearance at all times. Education, skills and experience:

• High school graduate or equivalent.


• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.


• Previous experience in a medical office environment is required. May substitute medical office experience with ICD-10 coding experience. 


• Knowledge of Medicare Risk Adjustment preferred.


• Experience working with electronic medical records software EHR/EMR strongly preferred.


• Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate both in writing and verbally.


• Strong computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 30 wpm.
