Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience. Possess a valid driver license.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- 2 years’ experience working as a maintenance technician with strong customer service focus.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques used in the skilled mechanical repair trades, including, carpentry, masonry, basic wiring, painting, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Follow industry safety guidelines and procedure, with OSHA 10 certification, or able to be trained in the first year.
- Skill in the use of common bench and hand tools and the equipment used in maintenance and repair work.
- Follow verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain a Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to easily lift 40 pounds.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook.
- Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve all building functions and issues.
- Follow industry safety guidelines and procedure, with OSHA 10 certification, or able to acquire in the first year.
- Ability to plan and organize building maintenance and repair work, read, write and interpret blueprints, take accurate measurements, perform basic math, understand and apply regulations, policies and procedures.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing tasks to meet the needs of all staff (Administrative Assistants, Research Scientist, and ILT members).
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment and other miscellaneous items as directed. This includes performing preventative maintenance on all buildings and related equipment.
- Perform minor repairs on all plumbing, electrical and communication equipment.
- Perform repair/alterations of building woodwork (partitions, door, cabinets, and special scientific furniture at FWRI St. Pete and field labs).
- Prepare and paint interior and exterior of buildings and equipment and other miscellaneous item as directed at FWRI St. Pete and field labs.
- Perform by understanding/following all safety related rules to include OSHA, NFPA, FWRI, etc.
- Perform/assist in hurricane preparedness program.
- Perform setup and take down of Marine Quest outreach project and work overtime as needed.
- Assist with HVAC maintenance and operations.
- Access the facilities work order system, with use of smart phone and/or computer.
- Complete assigned inspections and create additional work orders as needed.
- Install, maintain, and repair valves, faucets, traps, sinks, water closets and urinals.
- Perform general carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, doors, and windows.
- Repair defective components in fluorescent light fixtures, replace burned out bulbs, and replace defective switches and receptacles.
- Relocate furniture and equipment from building to building as required.
- Take pride in personal appearance and perform all duties with a commitment to excellence.
- Perform other related facilities duties as required.
WHAT IS OPS EMPLOYMENT?
Other Personal Services (OPS) temporary employer/employee relationship used solely for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees do not fill established positions and may not be assigned the duties of any vacant authorized position. OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment and terminations at the pleasure of the agency head or designee.
