The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) isthe state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Vocational Instructor II at the Northeast Florida State Hospital. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position functions as a job coach and provides skilled instructional work in planning, organizing and conducting a Vocational Work Program primarily in wood working, in a wood shop environment.
  • To provide treatment excellence, the incumbent will serve as a job coach and provide instruction, supervision, intervention, skills training and feedback.
  • Transports the people we serve to various work sites by means of a passenger vehicle or golf cart.
  • Provides specific job instruction to individuals assigned to the program.
  • To ensure treatment excellence, the incumbent will conduct wage and hour evaluations in accordance with the Department of Labor Standards.
  • Collects attendance, task and work skill data.
  • Provides input for development of task analysis.
  • Prepares and submits vocational reports.
  • To ensure cost efficiency the incumbent will assist with worksite budgets, conduct inventories, and submit requests for supplies and equipment.
  • To implement an outcome oriented management system, the incumbent will attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required.
  • Participates in on-going in-service education for professional development.
  • Assists in the escort and monitoring of the people we serve.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of a skilled vocation such as industrial arts, shoe repair or general maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of experience in the occupational area being taught, as defined by the employing agency.
  • College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training in the occupational area being taught, as defined by the employing agency, can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.
