Position Summary: The Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) at Florida Atlantic University is seeking applications for the Institute’s Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer will lead a vibrant engineering team focused on a broad range of software and hardware engineering projects. The Chief Engineer will work closely with the Executive Director of I-SENSE and be responsible for initiating, coordinating, and managing engineering development projects involving embedded hardware, embedded software, wireless communication, middleware, databases, web APIs, cloud computing, and more. The Chief Engineer will also serve a public-facing role, coordinating with I-SENSE partners and clients. Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Chief Engineer – Boca Raton, FL. Summary of Responsibilities: Determine project scope, schedule, and budget. Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan. Select technologies for individual projects and organize tasks for engineering team members. Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects remain within scope, schedule, and budget. Enact adjustments as needed to mitigate risk. Provide project updates on a consistent basis to stakeholders concerning strategy, adjustments, and progress. Monitor and assess team member performance to support continuous improvement. Manage I-SENSE developer accounts, including AWS, GitHub, etc. Manage communication with clients, vendors, and staff, both internal and external. Manage students and interns and provide support for educational programs, as needed. Demonstrate consistent, hands-on technological leadership and development progress across a full spectrum of technologies, spanning embedded hardware, embedded software, wireless communication, middleware, databases, web APIs, cloud computing, and more. Preferred Qualifications: Five years of work experience in managing software and/or embedded network systems. Salary: $150,000 - $180,000 per year.
