Florida Advocates, A Private Law Firm, is seeking to hire a full-time Litigation Assistant at their primary office in Dania Beach, Florida. The position offered would be a hybrid position, requiring the skills of a legal assistant and a paralegal combined. The candidate must have at least three years’ experience in Florida Property Damage litigation. Initially, the candidate would be expected to work in the office five days a week, but after the candidate has demonstrated an ability to manage the position, there would then be an opportunity for a hybrid work-from-home and office arrangement in the future. The position offers health, dental and vision insurance.
The following is a list of the responsibilities and requirements for position offered:
1. Coordination, defense and understanding of (attorney calendar / time) considering geographic location of events (if not set via zoom conference)
2. Draft of skeletal pleadings (for attorney to finalize) (such as Motions for extension, joint stipulations) and correlating proposed agreed orders.
3. Coordination of mediations (providing preferred mediator list) while taking into account court deadlines and attorney’s schedule/calendar and strategic litigation stance of case.
4. Coordinate phone conferences with opposing counsel, clients [clients in anticipation of (hearings, mediations, depositions and for any other reason)], and third parties.
5. Draft Notices for Depositions (sometimes skeletal, sometimes from form, which need to be specifically adjusted to address witness or specific detail of case).
6. Correspond via email with Opposing Counsel, Clients, and Court. Knowledge of how to establish a record of requested information within correspondence in anticipation of future pleadings.
7. Draft pleadings (with exhibits) of record of events/ communications within a case to further establish the argument for requested relief.
8. Effective communication with opposing counsel; opposing counsel’s supporting staff; clients; mediators; the court and any other party involved in litigation.
9. Coordination of zoom conferences for depositions, client meetings, meetings with opposing counsel or third parties.
10. Research and ongoing knowledge of procedural requirements per Judge/Jurisdiction such as Administrative Orders pertaining to submitting Motion(s) and requirements thereof.
11. Knowledge and understanding of litigation stance and strategic understanding of litigation prior to any scheduling or communication.
12. Knowledge of litigation timeline as to discovery, compliance with court orders and deadlines, etc.
13. Organization of Claim File and other Documents in chronological order, specifying parties, type of document and specifics delineated therein. (Breaking down a file) done at the onset of the case for ease of reference, with updates thereto as litigation progresses.
14. Draft Discovery specifically detailed to the type of case at issue. (calendaring for time frame expected for responses).
15. Receipt & Review of Discovery and drafting of skeletal response of discovery (for attorney to finalize) during client conference.
16. Legal research of arguments to be presented within pleadings.
17. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, and PDF software.
18. Drafting of Request for Copies or Objections to Nonparty Subpoenas.
19. Knowledge and understanding of litigation stance and strategic understanding of litigation prior to any scheduling or communication.
