Under occasional supervision, must be mentally and physically capable of providing building and courtroom security in order to protect the lives and welfare of County judges, attorneys, staff, jurors and the public. Performs general law enforcement duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare. Reports to the assigned Sergeant.
Provides security in Florence County designated buildings. Ensures building, windows, and all doors are secured at the close of business and no unauthorized individuals remain in the building.
Inspects, electronically and physically, all packages, briefcases, purses, etc.
Checks buildings, courtrooms, and surrounding areas for unusual or suspicious activities, theft, fire, and safety.
Takes action to protect and safeguard people and property from any type of attack or damage.
Provides information, direction, and assistance to the public in person or via telephone.
Monitors entry and exit of visitors and employees.
Escorts visitors, prisoners, or officers to the appropriate destination when required.
Investigates any security breaches and suspicious activities and reports these incidents up through the chain of command.
Transports jurors and witnesses to and from court; transports prisoners and psychiatric patients to various locations as needed.
Completes and submits required reports.
Performs general law enforcement duties, including apprehending and arresting criminal suspects and law violators, responding to public calls for assistance, serving arrest warrants and bench warrants, completing required records, etc.
Is on-call at all times for emergency situations.
Works under stressful, high-risk conditions.
Provides assistance to other departments or divisions as necessary.
Maintains required level of proficiency in the use of firearms and evasive action/driving skills.
Attends required periodic training sessions and seminars; participates in required physical fitness activities.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents including jail lists, security reports, bench warrants, arrest warrants, court dockets, court orders, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including the immediate supervisor, co-workers, attorneys, suspects, inmates, judges, court personnel, victims, medical personnel, other state and federal agencies, and the general public.
Operates and maintains a police vehicle, radio, typewriter, telephone, firearms, restraining devices, security scanners, and various other equipment. Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.
Performs other related duties as required
Requires a high school diploma, completion of required training and education at the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy and Class III certification, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience. Must possess a valid state driver's license.
