POSITION SUMMARY

The Employee Benefits Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Employee Benefits Department. The Employee Benefits Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring smooth and efficient administration of employee benefits programs, driving compliance, and delivering a positive client experience. This position can report out of our offices in Greeley, Fort Collins, or Englewood. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations and Process Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end process of employee benefits administration, including identifying efficiencies and effectiveness of the many processes.
  • Establish and enhance process and procedures to support the strategic direction of the Department, presenting recommendations to the Director. 
  • Execute operational plans and strategies to ensure efficient and effective delivery of employee benefits services. 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. 
  • Work with Client Service Team to develop and implement client communication strategies to educate and engage clients’ employees about benefits options, promoting understanding and utilization of available programs.
  • Identify carriers, assist in negotiation of program design and pricing of accounts.

Technology and Systems Administration:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of benefits administration systems and technology, identifying opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Analyze benefits data, prepare reports, and provide insights to inform decision-making and support strategic planning related to employee benefits programs.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all software and technology utilized within the department, demonstrating advanced technical proficiency to navigate and utilize these tools effectively for optimized performance.

Team Management:

  • Lead and manage our Client Service Team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to drive productivity and ensure high-quality service delivery. 
  • Determine staffing needs for department and represent department’s needs/issues to Director of Employee Benefits. 

Compliance:

  • Stay informed about relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to employee benefits, such as ERISA, ACA, and HIPAA. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly and indirectly supervise Client Service Team. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, recognizing achievement, and effectively resolving any challenges or conflicts that may arise. 

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

At Flood and Peterson all full time employees are eligible for benefits, including Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and paid Volunteer Time Off. Full time employees are also eligible to participate in our excellent 401k program, which includes both safe harbor and discretionary matching. We also offer several other voluntary insurance programs including expanded Life, Disability, Accident, Critical Illness/Event, and legal services. In addition to regular pay, this position is eligible to participate in our annual performance incentive program. 

Starting pay for exempt position is $110,000-$140,000/annually . Pay may exceed this range for well-qualified candidates, commensurate with experience.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Work Experience

Four to six years operations experience, overseeing efficient workflows and optimizing organizational processes. A minimum of two years of management and supervision experience, leading and guiding teams effectively towards achieving operational excellence. A solid background in the employee benefits industry is also essential, with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience in this field.

Language

Ability to comprehend and interpret complex instructions, concise correspondence, and memoranda. Ability to compose articulate correspondence. Proficient in delivering information effectively in individual and small group settings to diverse stakeholders, including customers, clients, and colleagues within the organization.

Mathematical

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

This position requires use of the following software or applications:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current or obtain Colorado Life & Health Insurance License within 2 months of hire date
  • Actively pursue industry designations as required to perform the duties of the position 
  • Requires current Colorado driver’s license and acceptable MVR

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role requires mobility and the ability to move independently. Tasks primarily involve office and desk work, including manual dexterity tasks such as typing, handling objects, reaching, and utilizing hands for various activities. Additionally, the role includes talking, hearing, and sitting for extended periods of time. Occasionally, lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs. is necessary. The office environment typically features moderate noise levels, including sounds from computers, printers, and moderate foot traffic.
