With offices in Alexandria, Virginia, Brussels, Belgium, Singapore and Melbourne, Australia, the Foundation conducts research, analysis and modeling to improve global aviation safety and to leverage extensive global aviation dataset to develop data-driven safety recommendations that are adopted globally.

POSITION INFORMATION
The Senior Editor/Media Specialist will work with internal and external editors and writers to research, write, source and edit articles and other content for the Foundation’s website, its AeroSafety World journal and SKYbrary.aero, an electronic repository of aviation safety knowledge. The successful candidate also will work with the Director of Communications on media engagement and elevating the Foundation’s profile in the media, and with other Foundation departments to ensure that all outbound messaging and communications are accurate, of consistently high quality and adhere to Foundation style guidelines.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Editor/Media Specialist will:

  • Research and write multiple short news articles per week on aviation safety-related developments, emerging technologies and other relevant topics.
  • Work with internal and external writers, aviation safety professionals and academics to craft and edit in-depth articles and papers on topics of interest to the Foundation’s membership and the broader international commercial and business aviation communities.
  • Develop/write SKYbrary articles at a minimum frequency of three per month.
  • Assist in implementing the Foundation’s media strategy and engage with media on a proactive basis.
  • Identify and track emerging aviation safety issues and technologies.
  • Edit/proof contributed SKYbrary articles for content, relevancy and style.
  • Review/update/delete existing content focusing on currency, relevancy and accuracy as determined by daily review of aviation safety trends and developments.
  • Assign and oversee work of internal and external SKYbrary contributors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Specific requirements include but are not limited to:

  • High degree of skill in written and oral communication;
  • High degree of skill in editing articles and content for accuracy, clarity, grammar and style;
  • Knowledge of the commercial aviation industry;
  • Strong Microsoft Word skills;
  • Strong research skills;
  • Familiarity with Wordpress; and,
  • Ability to develop and manage a team of internal and external authors and subject matter experts.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree in either journalism, public relations/communications or in an aviation-related discipline;
  • Commercial pilots license or equivalent military qualification;
  • Three to five years of experience in aviation, preferably in an operational role or three to five years experience working as writer/editor for an aviation-related publication or website;
  • Experience managing subcontractors;

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid passport

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Air transport pilot rating or equivalent
  • Aviation safety management system familiarity
  • Experience with using social media in a business setting to grow web traffic
  • Magazine writing/editing experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
