FLC Berea Greenhouse is Hiring a Sanitation Supervisor Near Berea, KY

Our Greenhouse located in Berea, Kentucky, our 15-acre greenhouse, that grows and harvests lettuce year-round. is currently seeking a Sanitation Supervisor to join our team. The essential function of this role is to support and maintain company sanitation standard operating procedures and applicable regulatory and food safety guidelines. This will include working with our 3rd party sanitation provider and internal teams to ensure the facility is being properly cleaned and sanitized at the required frequency.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the 3rd party sanitation company and ensure the facility is being properly cleaned and sanitized as required.
  • Supervise the sites internal sanitation crew (contract and employees)
  • Sets KPI’s and works with the Food Safety team to review EMP results and make changes to the Sanitation program as needed.
  • Conducts reviews with the 3rd party sanitation provider and chemical providers to review and make improvements to the sanitation program.
  • Develop and maintain facility master sanitation program (MSS) to ensure that all products are grown, harvested and packaged in sanitary environments.
  • Optimize Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) to ensure these instructions are well understood and adhered to accordingly while working closely with contract staff and consultants.
  • Works with the Food Safety team in selecting and approving the proper chemicals and sanitizers to be used in cleaning the facility.
  • Monitors, collects and reports results per SSOPs and all other HACCP pre-requisite programs as required
  • Maintains sanitation washroom/janitorial area(s) in a hygienic condition, chemical inventory, budgeting and forecasting, and operates all equipment safely and according to established guidelines.
  • Handles and mixes cleaning and sanitizing chemicals as prescribed per manufacturer’s label instructions
  • Monitors equipment and supplies to properly support the completion of departmental tasks.
  • Trains and supports departmental and non-departmental employees when necessary to ensure all are properly trained on how to properly and safely clean the items and areas assigned.
  • Works directly with staff and contract sanitation crews to ensure pack-house, cooler, and common areas are cleaned and sanitized per documented procedures and schedules. Cleans and sanitizes sowing and greenhouse equipment in a manner that protects against crop contamination
  • Removes broken glass and materials in accordance with procedure
  • Maintains an accurate sanitation tool inventory by routinely storing, sorting, and replacing tools as needed
  • Oversees and cleans drains, dumpsters, tools and other equipment and provides support and back-up as needed
  • Sets annual objectives and routinely monitors results
  • Cross-train and assist in other areas of the department as needed
  • Wears all necessary personal protective equipment required for each task
  • Facilitates sanitation compliance and ensures that observations, findings, corrective actions and concerns are addressed in a timely and professional manner
  • Performs other duties as needed

Education/Background Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (3 to 7 years’ experience)
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • One to three-year(s) supervisory experience in the sanitation field

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Must pass Drug Test and Background Check
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required
  • Experience writing SSOP’s for a ready to eat manufacturing environment
  • Understand basic operational and preventive maintenance of dispensers
  • Must be able to work independently and follow instructions as given
  • Understand company specific job-related applications of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Understand job specific applications of GMPs
  • Understands and applies proper cleaning and sanitizing practices
  • Understanding of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals used in a ready to eat environment
  • Understanding of microbiological control strategies related to sanitation
  • Knowledge of GFSI related standards is considered an asset
  • Proficiency in use of English language with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, present information and direction, and field questions from managers, employees and external contacts.
  • Spanish as a second language would be an asset
  • Must be a high-performance team player and be willing to work in a dynamic, growing, demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter and must work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Must have ability to effectively follow-up and handle multiple projects with strong personal time-management skills and effectively manage associated stress
  • Highly proficient in computer-use skills (MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of job
  • Willingness to work with a high degree of professionalism and personal integrity
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Need to be creative, adaptable and able to accurately handle out of the ordinary issues with a sense of urgency

Working Conditions:

  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Requires bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, repetitive motion
  • Work near moving equipment
  • Must be willing and can work in refrigerated environment (38-41 deg F) and greenhouse growing environment (80-100 deg F) for extended periods of time
