Reporting to: Internal Quality Manager

Department/Team: Internal Quality

Title: Internal Quality Technician

Summary: The Internal Quality Technician position’s primary responsibility is to implement Quality Systems through product and raw material analysis and Food Safety. Internal Quality Technician provides a support role to the Flavorman team conducting testing and providing guidance to other departments in both Quality and Food Safety at Flavorman.

Required Skill Set: Proficient in food and beverage, proficient in mathematics, task and goal oriented, problem solving skills, and time-management.

Responsibilities for Food Safety: Audit to the SQF code, maintain and review appropriate production and development logs, update raw materials in the HACCP program, sanitation, understand allergen and IP management.

Training Required/Provided by Flavorman: GLP, GMP, HACCP, SQF

Back-up Staff: Internal Quality Team, COO

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test specs (pH, Density, RI, and spectrometry, % alcohol, and water activity) on samples and materials received to Flavorman for use in products produced by Flavorman, fill out appropriate paperwork and log paperwork into QC log Program or Internal Batch Metrics Program.
  • Test specs (pH, Density, RI, and spectrometry, % alcohol, and water activity) on samples produced by the Flavorman Production team or other departments, fill out appropriate paperwork, and log paperwork into QC log Program or Internal Batch Metrics Program.
  • Label, Log in, and store samples on the appropriate retain shelf.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Create paperwork for production. This can include: Specification Sheets, COAs, Shelf- Life Extensions, and SDS paperwork.
  • Run flash point testing on flavor compounds created by Flavorman.
  • Check in and test raw materials received prior to use in Production and assist in the release of materials to the Production Team.
  • Create paperwork and make appropriate samples to send out for 3rd party lab testing.
  • Make laboratory standards for the Production Team to test against their new products.
  • Review current information on beverages and industry guidelines in support of corresponding project.
  • Keep laboratory space and retain storage area clean and organized.
  • Request, review, evaluate and test raw materials including flavors, input new flavors in flavor tasting log and keep digital flavor log up to date.
  • Request Specs, SDS, and other technical information for ingredients used in formulations.
  • Set up and participate in lab sensory evaluations for Triangle and Sensitivity Testing.
  • Set up and participate in lab sensory evaluations for approval of materials received by and produced within Flavorman.
  • Prepare and ship samples in a timely manner.
  • Perform and participate in various GMP, Hygiene, and SQF Audits.
  • Apply problem solving skills to continuously apply and improve the Food System at Flavorman and for our clients.
  • Be a Practitioner/Back-Up Practitioner for SQF at Flavorman.
