Overview:

This pivotal role will lead Flare's legal strategy across various complexities as we scale. You'll use your extensive legal background to partner closely with executive leadership and provide strategic and creative solutions to fuel our disruptive business. You will lead an international team of lawyers and legal professionals that tackles state/federal regulations, business development, IP, corporate matters, data privacy, compliance, litigation, and more.

Salary: $250,000 - $275,000 / year

What you’ll do:

• We operate at the forefront of a highly regulated, traditional market. You will lead our innovative legal and compliance strategy
• Become a trusted advisor to the executive team; providing legal counsel, creative strategy, and candor to business decisions
• Partner with the heads of our product, R&D and marketing teams as we devise and execute on our strategy
• Guide the business on data privacy and regulatory compliance - particularly as we enter new markets and business models
• Oversee the compliance roll-outs for new business lines and expansions, based on advice provided by Compliance attorneys and managers
• Establish and maintain our relationships with industry experts and advisors
• Manage a global team of lawyers and specialists
• Take responsibility for and manage legal and compliance matters across all departments

Who you are:

• 10-15 years of experience as a leadership-level in legal roles within high growth companies operating within highly regulated spaces, in-house Counsel (US e-commerce law experience preferred)
• JD from accredited US law school, admitted to NY Bar (must be eligible for in-house counsel registration)
• Experience leading a legal team, and comfort managing international teammates
• Comfort and experience interacting with C-suites; understand the need for succinctness, candor, and precision
• Highest ethical and integrity standards in decision-making
• Prepared to think-outside-the-box and partner with cross functional strategic teams in pioneering the growth and development of new business lines for the company
• Confidence, diplomacy, persuasion, and influence under pressure
• Experience handling e-commerce related IP and data privacy issues
• Analytical thinker with problem-solving skills, providing strategic and business-oriented solutions
• Excellent writing skills with adaptable content and tone (eg. translating complex legal language to digestible formats across functions)
• Occasional travel required
