With a presence in 14 counties and over 120 locations, Five Keys focuses on various initiatives aimed at empowering individuals and families to overcome poverty and inequity. Qualifications
ROLE & EXPECTATIONS
Under clinical direction and supervision of a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, the School Based Mental Health Intern will be mentored and expected to demonstrate proficiency to perform the following:
  • Fulfill direct Mental Health services to students ranging from the ages of 14-22 that are under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)
  • Fulfill individual and group counseling services to students to emphasize improved educational performance and/or conduct for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
  • Fulfill consultation and in-service to families and staff in the area of mental health/behavioral health
  • Assist with or independently develop and integrate mental health and wellness programs for special education students including Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions
    • Course offerings in areas of personal development, synchronous and asynchronous
    • Psychoeducational group offerings
    • Online resource hubs
    • Other prevention and intervention activities
  • Participates as an intern member of the multi-disciplinary team and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) committee collaborating on the student's educational plan including writing counseling goals and objectives, reporting on present levels of performance and updating staff on goal progress
  • Consults with teachers and other school staff regarding the student 's program and any adaptations/materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or home environment to attain educational benefit
  • Develop social media content on wellness topics
  • Maintain written documentation in a secured online portal
This internship is a stipend paid, part-time, temporary position that supports multiple community and in-custody sites throughout Los Angeles County. This role is scheduled to run through the end of the school year. At the expiration, the stipend and position will be re-evaluated based on the organization's needs and funding.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Experience with an understanding of how educational barriers affect work and training for students in the program
  • Creation and documentation of related reports and data as required
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office, Gmail, and Google Drives/Docs and professional communication, including spelling and grammar

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Registered intern with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences required
  • Master's Degree required
COMPENSATION
  • Hourly stipend of $35/hour
  • Weekly clinical supervision by a licensed professional, which will include mentoring (coaching) on clinical counseling and focus on licensing examination preparation subjects
  • Reimbursement for HIPAA approved online documentation portal

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • To promote the health and safety of its employees, those we serve and our local communities, Five Keys requires that all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and/or adhere to all weekly testing and safety measures. Employees may also request and receive approval for an exemption from this policy. Exemptions are granted to accommodate a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Travel required to Five Keys sites, communities and in-custody locations
  • Long periods of moving throughout the site and remaining stationary at a desk and/or computer station
  • Moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; reaching, bending, carrying and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activities
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is contingent upon:
  • Satisfactory results of a Live Scan (criminal background investigation)
  • Successfully obtaining jail clearance for positions working in county jails or probation locations
  • Submitting proof of clear TB results. Results dated within 60 days prior to hire date are acceptable

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be willing and able to work in a correctional facility and travel throughout the area to community sites
  • Moderate to high noise level
  • Work environment varies from site to site
  • Some personal safety risk working in underserved communities
