Job SummaryFishbeck is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join firm operations to further develop and administer policies, programs, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and regulations. The selected individual will be responsible for driving health and safety continuous improvement initiatives for Fishbeck and will work closely with all levels of stakeholders to reduce risk, promote a culture of safety, and ensure a safe and healthful environment for staff members, clients, and the communities we serve. The position will manage change and provide comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis. Qualified candidates will have a proven record managing time effectively, recognizing and mitigating hazards, and writing, developing, and implementing safety programs.
Primary Functions
  • Facilitate, promote, and supply necessary resources and training to appropriate positions to implement safety programs.
  • Manage safety performance for assigned departments/equipment.
  • Lead an effective safety committee to address open items and safety concerns.
  • Audit H&S programs and conduct field/office visits.
  • Safety meeting facilitation
  • Develop site specific safety plans (assessing, writing, training, JSA/JHA)
  • Hold jobsite meetings to instruct staff on hazards and safety procedures unique to the job.
  • Develop/update training programs
  • Work with firm broker to mitigate risk and ensure compliance of OSHA rules, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensure incident and accident corrective actions are well developed and implemented.
  • Follow proper reporting procedures for internal requirements, regulatory bodies, and insurance programs.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root cause and establish lasting solutions.
  • Perform required training for new hires and existing staff and ensure annual trainings is completed.
  • Work with Human Resources, Facilities, and other firm leadership to implement EHS programs
  • Promote a culture of safety and advocate for Fishbeck’s core values.
  • Maintain EHS training records including, first responders, electrical safety, WWS, lockout tagout, hazard communication, driver/vehicle safety, incident reporting and response, fire extinguishers, hand and power tools, PPE, etc.
  • Maintain the training records, including HAZWOPER and Confined Space. Certify that mandatory training has been completed on a timely basis and is documented. Schedule retraining and license or permit renewals as needed.
  • Perform and document job site inspections/audits. Complete approved jobsite inspection checklist including written summary of conditions on the jobsite including safety hazards or unsafe conditions and how they were abated. Effectively communicate and distribute finished product to management and field personnel. Implement corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Determine appropriate levels and standards for company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Some travel required, including overnight stays, throughout the Midwest Region (MI, OH, IN)
Minimum Physical RequirementsOccasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, walking, and maneuvering around off-site facilities. Will have normal office working conditions and be required to use a computer and phone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education/LicensureBachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 7 years of safety experience, at least 5 years managing a structured safety program. Experience in Engineering, Architectural, and Construction services industry strongly desired.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of construction-related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and the ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
  • Health and safety experience within diverse work environments
  • Experience with change management
  • Safety, Environmental, and/or Industrial Hygiene Certification is highly desired (GISP, ASP, CSP, CIH, ARM)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must be an effective communicator, generate professional written material, understand change management techniques, and deliver effective verbal presentations.
