About FirstLine Schools

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates several PK-8th grade schools. Our mission is to create and inspire great, open admissions public schools in New Orleans. We do this by:

Position Summary:

FirstLine Schools is seeking dynamic and experienced individuals to join our team as school bus drivers. Reporting directly to the Director of Transportation, FirstLine Schools drivers will be responsible for ensuring safe and reliable transportation for our students to and from school, as well as for field trips and other school-related activities. As a Bus Driver, you will play an essential role in supporting our mission to create and inspire great open-admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Position Responsibilities:

• Student Transportation: Safely transport students to and from school and school-related activities.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, ensuring it is clean and in good working order.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all traffic and transportation regulations to maintain a safe environment for all passengers.
• Timeliness: Maintain punctuality and reliability in bus schedules and routes.
• Communication: Interact professionally with students, parents, and school staff, addressing any transportation-related concerns.
• Emergency Preparedness: Respond appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations, following established protocols.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a bus driver required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
• Licensing: Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage time effectively.
• Must be able to meet CPNC, local, state and federal requirements.
• Subject to drug testing.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, conduct vehicle inspections, and assist students as needed.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. FirstLine Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package with a generous 403b plan.

Starting base salary: $21/hr - $30/hr
