A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is a professional who assists the elderly, disabled or people in recovery with performing day-to-day activities. For example, they help with household chores, hygiene and mobility support.

Assist Clients with:

• Personal hygiene, including shower, tub or bed baths, oral care, hair and skin care.

• Use of toilet facilities, including bed pans.

• In and out of bed, excluding the use of mechanical lifting equipment unless trained and documented as competent.

• Walking, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.

• Self-administration of medications.

• Meal preparation and feeding, when required.

• Prescribed exercises when the client and the aide have been instructed by the appropriate health professional.

• Record and report changes in the client’s physical condition, behavior or appearance to supervisor or Case Coordinator.

• Documenting services delivered in accordance with FirstLight Home Care policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Never have been shown by credible evidence to have abused, neglected, sexually assaulted, exploited, or deprived any person or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct as evidenced by an oral or written statement to this effect which will be obtained at the time of application.

• Will not have made any material false statements concerning qualifications requirements either to the department or the provider.

• Must have successfully completed either the 2-part “Home Health Aide Skills Assessment Test or the 3-part “Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Competency Test”.

• Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly.

• Ability to carry out directions, read and write.

• Maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.
