FirstDay Foundation is Hiring an IT Technical Writer Near San Antonio, TX

Experience: (3) years related experience in either Technical Writing and Editing or Technical Systems Support Job Summary The Technical Writer (TW) is responsible for creating various types of documentation, ranging from policy guidance to technical design documents. This role involves collaborating with different departments by interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs) such as software developers, system engineers, and project leads to gather relevant content. Additionally, Technical Writers gather supporting materials such as org charts, wiki entries, and checklists to aid in document development. Using this research, the writer will craft documents that meet the quality standards of FirstDay Foundation and align with client expectations. Technical Writers must adhere to departmental editing guidelines, update document progression in tracking software, and ensure smooth hand-offs between team members throughout the document life-cycle. Duties: 1. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of policies and procedure documentation for technology concepts. 2. Determines development approaches in coordination with project teams. 3. Review, critique, and edit documentation, including existing and draft documents. 4. Use outlined requirements to edit or develop a document’s structure when specified. 5. Work with technology control management leads and technology/application teams to produce policy documentation and technology process documentation, including multiple levels of policy guidance, technical procedures, and documentation for use by control management, technology, and the business community. 6. Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to clarify ambiguous passages and gather missing information, collect information, prepare written text, and coordinate material organization within defined structures. 7. Copyedits technical content to remove issues with grammar, syntax, consistency, and content. 8. Ability to develop training materials that are well-organized, utilizing proper English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. 9. Demonstrated ability to research, design, deliver, and evaluate technical documentation. 10. Follows departmental writing, editing, and coordination processes. 11. Demonstrated ability to present and convey information in front of internal and external stakeholders. 12. Demonstrated ability to use and coordinate multiple resources to complete tasks in a reasonable time frame. 13. Assist with project coordination, support, and documentation. 14. Develop and lead the implementation of business process improvement recommendations. 15. Reports progress to Document Management Administrator. Qualifications: 1. 3 years of experience working in the technical sector performing technical writing or editing. 2. Fundamental understanding of Information Technology Security concepts and systems. 3. Demonstrated ability to document large integrated hardware or software architectures. 4. Strong proven troubleshooting and analytical abilities in a large-scale operational environment. 5. Capable of analyzing data, recognizing problems, and drawing logical conclusions. 6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret information as it pertains to compliance-related functions and regulations. 7. Ability to follow instruction and to work both independently and within a team environment. Other Responsibilities: 1. Perform other job duties as assigned.
