The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a machine shop, ensuring efficient processes, and maintaining a safe working environment.

This role involves managing a team of machinists, coordinating prototype schedules, and implementing quality control measures.

The Machine Shop Supervisor plays a crucial role in optimizing workflow, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that KPI's are met.

The supervisor needs to be effective in a fast-paced and agile environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Team Leadership : Lead and supervise a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of productivity and adherence to quality standards.

Remain agile in approaches to succeed in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • Planning : Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to schedule and prioritize work orders, ensuring timely completion of projects while optimizing machine utilization.
  • Quality Control : Implement and enforce quality control processes to guarantee the precision and accuracy of machined parts.

Conduct regular inspections and address any deviations from quality standards.

Workflow Optimization : Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow optimization. Streamline production processes to enhance efficiency and reduce lead times.

Maintain a set of KPI's across the aspects of the machine shop and use as feedback to drive improvement.

Equipment Maintenance : Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure that machines are properly maintained and serviced.

Address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.

  • Safety Compliance : Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all team members adhere to safety regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to create a secure working environment.

Foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.

  • Communication : Maintain open communication channels with other departments, such as engineering and procurement, to facilitate collaboration and resolve any cross-functional issues.
  • Documentation : Keep accurate records of production activities, machine maintenance, and quality control measures. Generate reports as needed to track key performance indicators.
  • Budget Management : Assist in budgeting and cost control measures for the machine shop. Monitor expenses related to materials, equipment, and personnel.

Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma with training in machining practices preferred.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, and related technologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control standards.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
