SUMMARY Wealth Management acts as an investment manager, custodian, or trustee and in other fiduciary capacities. Clients include individuals, corporations, charitable organizations, and government authorities. The Compliance Officer performs a key role to help ensure corporate initiatives and line of business processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and state trust codes. While working within the Compliance Management Program framework, the Compliance Officer is responsible for testing and monitoring of Wealth Management’s compliance, providing compliance advice to the line of business as a subject matter expert, and executing or participating in corporate processes. The Compliance Officer will also be integral in preparing documentation for examinations from Internal Audit and/or external regulators. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned: Contribute to developing and maintaining a robust Wealth Management Compliance Program. Contribute to developing, updating and/or refining policies specific to Wealth Management division. Performing targeted tests online of business controls and providing guidance on identified risk. Conduct targeted validations and reviews on controls over applicable regulations. Active involvement with continuous compliance testing and third-party compliance. Support Wealth Management by answering compliance related questions on the phone, in person and email. Providing input on business regulatory requirements, business policies, standards, and procedures. Review and identify possible updates of practices and procedures to ensure accuracy. Identify trends in data and advise on identified emerging risks. Inform and advise management of conditions, status and issues related to compliance performance. Maintain subject matter knowledge of Regulations, state trust laws and Wealth Management policies and procedures. Monitor practices and procedures to ensure that changes are implemented. Participation in and/or reviewing department training, as appropriate. Evaluate self-identified issues and events for compliance impacts. Train personnel to reinforce existing practices and to educate them about changes in laws and regulations. Providing compliance advice on projects. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE Bachelors’ degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and three years Wealth Management or other banking compliance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of regulatory compliance regarding Wealth Management transactions, documents, products and/or services is preferred; experience as a bank compliance officer or certification of competency in consumer compliance from a national organization is preferred; 12 months working with ERISA Regulations preferred. OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to effectively train diverse target audiences using a variety of formats, including video and telephone conferencing, large staff meetings and small group sessions. Expertise with Word, Power Point, and Excel; Aptitude with new software programs. Ability to use Internet for research. Ability to prioritize, handle detail, and manage high volumes and multiple tasks accurately; Ability to meet and interact with co-workers in a friendly, positive, and professional manner. Excellent telephone etiquette, written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must have a good driving record and a valid driver’s license. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, comprehend and interpret governmental regulations, technical procedures, general business periodicals or professional journals. Ability to write business correspondence, training programs and procedure manuals. Ability to apply policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or large group situations to employees of the organization. Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. REASONING ABILITY Ability to review, analyze and resolve complex problems. Ability to apply common sense understanding and make risk-based judgment decisions to carry out day-to-day issues. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
