General Requirements

The church sexton for the First Congregational Church of Dalton needs to be a mature individual who is able to work with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, caring, responsible, and willing to go above and beyond normal duties when necessary. This individual also needs to be cooperative and have the ability to work well with staff and others.

Responsibilities include janitorial duties, maintenance, and systems operation of the church building and grounds. Building and grounds duties include maintaining the grounds which include mowing, and trimming of lawns, snow blowing and salting sidewalks and clearing entrances As required. Janitorial and maintenance duties require the preparing for and cleaning the church afterwards each Sunday.

Duties include the security of the building, storage, and distribution of supplies for the building, and care of major church equipment and maintenance of machines.

The sexton works closely with the Trustees and keeps them informed of building and grounds problems and needs as required.

This currently is a 52 hour per month permanent part-time position with flexible hours. Hours and time worked can be negotiated through the Board of Trustees in conjunction with the church staff based on duties required.
