First Choice Services is a non-profit operating several FREE programs and helplines across multiple states with the common goal of making behavioral health and social services easier to access and navigate! And we do all of this from our beautiful office in Charleston, WV!
What are we looking for in a candidate?

We are looking for candidates who have a strong desire to help those who are struggling and maintain warmth and patience in tough situations. We need you to have passion for helping others in the areas of suicide prevention, mental health, and addiction.
What does a Peer Recovery Support Specialist at First Choice Services do?
Our First Choice Services Peer Recovery Support Specialist provides peer support services to clients with addiction problems. The Peer Recovery Support Specialists functions as a role model and coach to those seeking personal wellness and long-term recovery by adhering to professional ethics, demonstrating competencies, using effective coping skills, serving as an advocate, using best practices and providing information and referral.
What are some of the essential functions?
  • Promote ongoing recovery from substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders using written recovery plans and tracking progress toward goals. Support clients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving goals.
  • Act as a guide/coach for peers by helping them identify and utilize strengths, develop resilience and overcome personal and environmental barriers that jeopardize recovery.
  • Help individuals identify environmental factors, interpersonal factors and/or risk behaviors that are associated with their substance use behaviors in effort to help support their recovery efforts.
  • Help individuals find resources for harm reduction, detoxification, treatment, family/community/peer support and education, and local or online support groups.
  • Answer incoming calls, chats or texts;
  • Input call/chat/text reports into appropriate systems
  • Documenting the visitor’s interactions into the appropriate systems
  • Conducting follow-up calls when appropriate
What are the requirements for the positions?
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Lived personal experience with substance use challenges/addiction.
  • Ongoing involvement with a personal support and/or recovery system
  • Residence in stable, recovery-supportive housing for the last six months
  • No legal involvement within the last six months.
  • Minimum of two most recent years in recovery with no SUD treatment for the preceding six months, excepting MAT
  • Peer Recovery Support Specialist certification or ongoing progress toward PRSS certification
  • Must have your own transportation.
  • Valid Driver’s License and valid insurance
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen (post-offer).
  • Ability to work shift assigned.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Continuous computer work, so candidates must have some computer and typing skills.
