Summer Camp Mentor at Westwood Heights Elementary, will be required to work approximately 35-40 hours per week, for 8 weeks.

Position Mission: The Mentor is an essential member of Firewall's leadership team. Summer Camp Mentors help plan, lead and implement camp activities for campers. They build a close relationship with campers, model positive behaviors, and provide high-quality educational opportunities in an enjoyable environment that encourages growth through safe playtime.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

• Develop an excellent relationship with the students while promoting positive Attendance, Behavior, and Course Performance.
• Maintain appropriate order and discipline and make sure all safety rules are followed.
• Execute scheduled age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities for the day.
• Oversee and ensure children’s safe and smooth transitions and supervision throughout the day.
• Assist in daily set up and break down and maintain equipment.
• Ensure site is clean and that campers don’t liter recreational areas or nature.
• Perform first aid or take care of injuries as need.
• Keep accurate incident logs.
• Maintain-accurate records related to each student's Performance and Behavior.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• The Mentor must be a United States citizen or a national or legal permanent resident and at least 18 years of age.
• The Mentor certifies that s/he is a high school graduate or has received his/her diploma or G.E.D.
• Must receive a favorable background check.
• Familiarity with various outdoor activities.
• Strong people skills, patient, reliable and the ability to work well with campers and staff.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Energetic and positive personality.
• Able to follow written and oral directions.
• Able to meet the physical demands of the job. (Strength and stamina to engage in activities like running, extended walks, carrying children) Able and comfortable working outdoor.
• Experience as a Camp Counselor or similar role working with children preferred.
• First aid and CPR certified preferred.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Monitor and record daily attendance, behavior and mediate any conflicts between students.
• Attend and participate in daily, weekly meetings.
