What you will do:

* Coordinates staffing for pathology department.

* Provides feedback on staff for annual evaluations.

* Monitors quality control and instrument maintenance. Assures that there is daily reconciliation of worklists.

* Oversees biennial procedure manual review.

* Retrieves, receives, accessions, and processes all patient tissue specimens, to include assisting with frozen sections, cytology preparations, routine embedding, microtomy, and staining, immunohistochemistry staining, and special staining.

* Maintains the histology competency program. Trains employees and assesses ongoing competency of employees.

* Assures provision of adequate supplies and cleanliness of area.

* Assists in the performance of CAP inspections. Assures pathology is in compliance with all regulatory agencies.

* Writes and maintains pathology procedures in conjunction with the Medical Director.

* Enters patient data and charges, as needed, into the computer system.

* Must be accessible to the lab as needed.

* Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures.

* Assures remedial action is taken when testing deviates from performance specification

* Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends/completes required training.

* Participates in intradepartmental activities and committees as assigned.

* Demonstrates service excellence and ACE.

* Performs other duties, as assigned.

What you will need:

* Minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent in histology or biologic science required.

* HT/HTL (ASCP or equivalent) certification that includes special stains and immunohistochemistry required.

* Previous histology experience required.

* CPR/BLS certification preferred.

* Ability to be mobile.

* Ability to exhibit dexterity and to differentiate colors.

* Ability to read and write small letters and numbers. Extreme attention to detail required.

* Ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to handle multiple priorities, and concentrate and communicate effectively in both oral and written form with management, patients, and co-workers.

* Basic computer literacy.

* Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.

* Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.

* Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.

* Successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
