FIRE is Hiring a Multimedia Producer Near Philadelphia, PA

This position will be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and/or Washington, D.C. FIRE operates on a hybrid work schedule that allows for a mix of in-the-office and remote work for eligible employees.

FIRE is seeking an entrepreneurial full-time Multimedia Producer to join its Communications team.

At FIRE, we believe that free speech makes free people. The right of the individual to speak their mind is fundamental for a free society. So we're on a mission to promote and defend free speech — and we need an entrepreneurial and enthusiastic Multimedia Producer who can deliver those messages to the public. FIRE produces tons of exciting commentary, research, and advocacy to defend free speech, both on campus and in the broader society.

The Multimedia Producer is responsible for regularly producing educational, innovative, and, most importantly, entertaining content (largely, but not exclusively, stemming from FIRE’s work) for our various communications channels. These channels include social media, podcasts, emails, paid digital and physical media, events, FIRE’s website, and other creative platforms to expand the reach of FIRE’s mission.

About FIRE

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s mission is to defend and sustain the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought — the most essential qualities of liberty. FIRE educates Americans about the importance of these inalienable rights, promotes a culture of respect for these rights, and provides the means to preserve them.

Position Description

The Multimedia Producer will report directly to FIRE’s Creative Director and work closely with FIRE’s marketing, audio/video, graphic design, media relations, web development, and social media teams.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining how FIRE’s mission and vision can best be spread to different audiences through different channels.
  • Monitoring FIRE’s various social media platforms to determine content strategies.
  • Developing a comprehensive content strategy for FIRE.
  • Working with FIRE’s various departments, technical teams, and vendors to make content ideas a reality.
  • Serving as project manager from content ideation through distribution and marketing, including tracking assets, managing progress, organizing, and delivering assets to the Social Media Manager for distribution.
  • Bringing FIRE’s mission to a wider audience through the production and distribution of entertaining, innovative, and educational content.
  • Collaborating with other staff members and departments on general duties and specialized projects, including, but not limited to, contributing to FIRE’s blog, Newsdesk.
  • Attending meetings with FIRE’s Marketing team and vendors to discuss content creation.

This position will also perform other support functions for the day-to-day operation of FIRE’s creative process and Communications department.

This position involves periodic travel. Occasional work on weekends and evenings should be expected.

The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will be judged on the quantity and quality of the content they help produce and on how that content increases the public’s exposure to FIRE’s mission and messages.

To achieve success, a candidate must be entrepreneurial, organized, and creative. Most importantly, the candidate must exercise superb judgment and demonstrate a knowledge and passion for FIRE’s mission and an ability to articulate that passion in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause.

A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  • A proven track record creating content and managing a content production process within various media.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and general copy editing skills.
  • The ability to work well independently and with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to identify opportunities and run with them.
  • Flexibility and creativity during the implementation of a new project.
  • Basic knowledge of image editing and design.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or substantial relevant experience. Special consideration will be given to candidates with video and/or audio editing skills, social media management experience, and/or with experience serving as “on-air” talent.

Salary and Compensation

Starting salary is negotiable and depends upon experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work. FIRE also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-paid comprehensive health, dental, and life insurance; a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account option; matching retirement contributions; and a generous paid time-off plan.

Applications

Applicants should provide a resume, cover letter, a writing sample or other demonstration of work (portfolio, for example), salary requirements, and contact information for at least two professional references.
