The Maintenance Shop Laborer plays an important role supporting the members of the Maintenance Team in ensuring trucks and equipment are clean and ready for operation each day. This individual is responsible for a variety of tasks, with a primary focus on pressure washing and degreasing tractor trailers. The tasks also include cleaning and disinfecting equipment to prevent the spread of COVID and supporting the general needs of the shop. Exceptional individuals in this role can also learn some maintenance and repair work, enabling them to move toward Mechanic roles in the company over time.

TOTAL COMPENSATION

$18.94 to $25.10 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain maintenance shop, fuel farm and property grounds in a clean and neat condition free of debris, trash, oil and lubricants.
• Assist mechanics with repairs as needed. This may include duties such as cleaning, sanding or painting parts and operating power-driven tools and equipment.
• Be familiar with uses of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools.
• Operate forklift in a safe manner.
• Fuel equipment or fleet as required.
• Wash company vehicles and equipment as instructed by foreman.
• Assist maintenance staff and parts department with inventory as requested.
• Assist with tire and part installation.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of tools and repairs.

· Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.

• Perform snow removal operation as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers and others as needed
• Able to drive manual transmission vehicles and trucks
• Able to use hands to hold, grasp, push and pull
• Willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs, primarily day shift hours (usually between 6 AM and 4 PM), overtime, weekends, and/or holidays as required to accommodate company and project needs
• Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug screening and work history verification

· Consistent access to a reliable personal email account.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

· HS Diploma or GED with 1 year experience performing similar duties.

Preferred:

· Experience in similar line of work with some technical training in maintenance or welding.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
This job requires the ability to do and understand basic math. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, climb equipment or ladders, push-pull and lift items 30 to 50 pounds. Able to use hands to hold, grasp, push and pull. Able to work outside exposed to weather conditions and in-shop atmosphere with loud noises and fumes; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand, sit for extended time; use hand tools.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily indoor work in a maintenance shop. Regularly exposed to hazards such as noise, fumes, moving equipment, liquids and lubricants.
