FINRA is Hiring a Lead Network-Firewall Engineer Near Rockville, MD

Under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Network Engineering, the Network-Firewall Engineer is responsible to:
  • Perform duties of a network-firewall engineer related to network and firewall systems administration and change management, operational support, incident response, and troubleshooting.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, maintenance, operations, and configuration management of cloud and on-premises network infrastructure and services.
  • Management of perimeter network security devices, including but not limited to router, firewall and VPN configuration and management.
  • Contribute to the engineering, testing, and deployment of multiple projects and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Display an in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and predominant communication protocols (e.g., DNS, IPSec, Routing, GRE tunnels, multicasting, and traffic balancing, and high availability techniques).
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues in LAN/WAN and public cloud network infrastructures.
  • Support multiple application and system owners to identify bottlenecks and other network performance issues; this includes an ability to understand, identify, and escalate chronic issues causing inefficient operations and impact.
  • Provide expert knowledge and experience performing deep packet troubleshooting with Wireshark, packet analyzer.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on firewall technology to application owners in identifying and troubleshooting traffic flow requirements and recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain network infrastructure configurations to prescribed standards and guidelines to ensure optimal monitoring, performance, and security posture.
  • Position requires the ability to work independently in meeting recurring job duties while working collectively with team members, as required.
  • Lead collaboration with other team members and other teams to ensure technology solution and staff are in line with customer expectations and overall technology vision and goals.
  • Assist with adherence to technology policies and comply with all security controls.
  • Participate in periodic Disaster Recovery (DR), Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Evaluate industry trends, standards, and new technologies to proactively recommend and implement changes.
  • Development and present technology analytics, documentation, and presentation materials.
  • Manage vendor support and account relationships.
  • Provide backup coverage for more senior management, occasionally as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff in skill development.
  • At least 7 years of experience in network design, implementation, and administration.
  • Hands-on experience with all phases of network engineering and operational responsibilities (e.g., planning, design, deployment, change control, incident response, and support).
  • Display expert a knowledge of TCP/IP and predominant communication protocols (e.g., DNS, IPSec, Routing,).
  • Experience and ability to demonstrate skills in the five areas below. A minimum of two are req., more are preferred.
  • A working knowledge of cloud networking (e.g., AWS/Azure), including but not limit to VPC setup, routing, and troubleshooting, Security Group, Route53, Load balancer set up and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of network routing (BGP, EIGRP) and switching protocols, multicast & QoS protocols, hands on experience with Cisco router and switching hardware, and high availability solutions.
  • In depth experience with Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama, set up and management.
  • In depth experience with F5 LTM, APM and GTM set up, management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Python/Shell scripting and network management tools (e.g., Nagios, SevOne, Infoblox) are valued.
  • Excellent analytical skills, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact and work collectively with colleagues and vendor
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent with five (5) years of related experience in engineering or related technical discipline.
  • CISSP certificate or other industry recognized network or security certification, preferred.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent with seven (7) years of related experience in engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Past senior level systems administrator experience in a production data center environment.
  • In-depth understanding of common network security issues and industry security best practices
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise grade network design and management.
  • Solid hands-on experience with various networks, monitoring software, remote assistant tools, firewalls (OS level command line and GUI interface), and operating system switches
  • Familiar with various network management/troubleshooting tools.
  • Proficiency with multiple operating systems
  • Strong knowledge and experience in various scripting languages.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well in a fast- paced, team environment.
  • Strong decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with people at all levels in the organization, both inside and outside of technology.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies.
  • Excellent planning skills.
  • Willingness to accept new challenges and grasp new or changing concepts, technologies and procedures.
Work Conditions:
  • Work is normally performed in a hybrid work environment.
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required as this is a 24x7 operations environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

In addition to location, actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s skill set, level of experience, education, and internal peer compensation comparisons.
California: Minimum Salary $124,300, Maximum Salary $235,500
Washington, DC: Minimum Salary $124,300, Maximum Salary $225,700
Colorado/Hawaii: Minimum Salary $108,200, Maximum Salary $196,200
New York, NY: Minimum Salary $129,800, Maximum Salary $235,500
Washington State: Minimum Salary $108,200, Maximum Salary $225,700
