Job Summary:

An entry-level Automotive Service Technician / Apprentice functions as a technician who is able to perform diagnostics and repairs in all areas. An apprenticeship program starting at $18.50 per hour is available for selected candidates.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
• Communicates with Parts Department to obtain needed parts.
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
• Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
• Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
• Inspects and test drives newly delivered vehicles for obvious damage and missing major components and drivability functions.
• Installs optional equipment specified by the customer or dealer.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
• Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean.
• Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning to proper place.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner, reports safety issues immediately.
• Performs other duties may be assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Little or no experience is acceptable.

• Experience maintaining high customer satisfaction is highly encouraged.
• Knowledge of the specialized area and general vehicle repair is a plus.
• Mechanical repair skills is a plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
• Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
• Ability to read work orders.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screen (background & hair follicle drug test).

Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• 2 Years of Experience in a dealership or similar environment is a plus.
• Participant in a manufacturer-sponsored training program, school, or event is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
• Must be able to lift up to 45lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to inspect vehicle to determine repairs needed.
• Good vision to inspect repair work.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
