Fidelity Investments Careers is Hiring a Principal, Real Assets Near Boston, MA

Job Description:

The Role

Devonshire Investors is a private investment firm affiliated with FMR LLC, the parent company of Fidelity Investments. Headquartered in Boston, Devonshire manages investments on behalf of FMR and its shareholders in businesses outside of the financial services industry.

Devonshire invests in directly-held real estate, venture capital and later-stage private equity. Devonshire actively participates in its direct investments, while leveraging expertise across a global platform in the United States, Europe and Asia. The portfolio targets the real assets, technology and life sciences sectors. Devonshire has over $20 billion in assets under management.

The Real Assets platform consists of holdings in natural resources, real estate, telecommunications and infrastructure. The platform comprises direct investments, wholly-owned operating companies, dedicated vehicles for minority equity investments, and very limited fund investments.

This position will report to the Head of Real Assets. The platform consists of dozens of direct real assets investments and the platform continues to grow. As a result of this growth, Devonshire is adding this new position. Primary responsibilities will include: supporting oversight of existing portfolio holdings, supporting diligence of new investments, conducting industry research and analysis, developing, testing and refining real asset investment thesis and supporting investor communication and investment performance review (with analyst support).

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Partner with investment and operations teams on portfolio management and oversight of existing holdings
  • Serve as board member, board committee member and/or investor representative for individual holdings alongside investment team members; develop strong working relationships with management teams, fellow board members and investment partners
  • Drive favorable investment outcomes. Play key role in development of the platform’s real asset investment thesis, the execution of that thesis and assessment of performance against that thesis
  • Develop leading industry knowledge, market insights, and deep familiarity with financial, strategic, and operational details of portfolio holdings, and offer insights into market trends impacting performance
  • 5-10 years’ experience as a vice president/director at an institutionally scaled direct investment platform, preferably in an institutional asset manager such as a large family office, multi-family office, endowment, foundation or investment advisor
  • Prior experience in real assets investing is a strong preference (natural resources, real estate, infrastructure).
  • Direct experience in corporate governance roles, such as serving as a board member and /or investor advisory board member
  • A proven record of delivering results and demonstrating impact
  • Strong attention to detail with a sense of urgency and ownership of completing the day-to-day
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; capability to analyze financial statements, review projections and understand business implications
  • Gravitas to engage with portfolio company management, investment partners and senior executives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to persuade through influence rather than directive
  • Willingness to travel approximately one-to-two times per month to attend quarterly board meetings, ad-hoc management meetings, industry conferences and general networking opportunities
