Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist position will work with the Senior Communications Specialist to support the full range of NIWL's communications needs, including project communications for corporate social responsibility projects and government-funded projects, as well as NIWL's department-level communications. Using a matrix management approach, the position reports directly to the senior Communications Specialist, and may also indirectly report to various project directors or project managers. The position will focus on creating and delivering clear, concise, and coordinated messaging across multiple communications platforms to support department visibility and project public presence. Coordinates with FHI 360 Corporate Communications, funders, partners and stakeholders to develop department and project communications deliverables and amplify partners' voices and achievements. Works across all communications platforms, including email, websites, social media platforms, and company intranet. Reviews communications and educational content, including copyediting and brand adherence. Supports all communication aspects of the NIWL team - including narrative, collateral, and website management - ensuring high quality and smooth production from start to finish, including providing analytics and reporting to clients. Plans and coordinates meetings and events as needed. This position is 100% remote.

Accountabilities:

  • Researches, writes, and edits a broad range of communications that assist local partners to deliver program activities to young people and their family members, corporate volunteers, and other adults who support their learning and development.

  • Coordinates with project managers and content specialists to create, launch, update, redesign and/or maintain project websites as needed and serve as a web manager.

  • Assists in developing messages, materials, and products which position NIWL as a collaborative leader in the field of work and learning.

  • Prepares a variety of promotional and informational materials including articles, video stories, web content, FAQs and other related media to support project and department needs.

  • Implements communications plans to promote a variety of events, projects, services and programs using newsletters, social media, websites, etc.

  • Provides review and editing of internal and external communications and educational content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency of message, branding, and tone.

  • Creates programmatic marketing templates (for students, family members, educators, and administrators), graphics, and other communications tools and collateral for project staff and local partner organizations.

  • Provides communications and website support to local NGO partners and their communications staff.

  • Assists in tracking analytics and provides periodic reporting.

  • Curates project and department photo libraries.

  • Maintains department collateral, such as overviews and project one-pagers.

  • Support proposal development through writing, reviewing and/or graphic design.

  • Assists with other NIWL communication-related tasks as needed.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Very strong written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects to meet short deadlines.

  • Detail-oriented, with strong copyediting skills.

  • Expertise in Canva.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Adobe products a plus.

  • Experience in social media management.

  • Understanding of CMS systems, such as WordPress, Drupal, or other website platforms a plus.

  • Photography, videography, and/or video production skills a plus.

  • Ability to work on problems that are diverse in scope and require judgment in resolving or making recommendations for solutions.

  • Must be able to work independently in a virtual environment; strong time-management skills.

  • Knowledge of and comfort with STEM fields, workforce development, and/or juvenile justice a plus.

  • Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and an understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues associated with global program implementation and scalability.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field.

Experience:

  • Typically requires 2 years of writing, editing, and publications experience.

  • Experience managing multiple social media platforms.

  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English. Spanish language skills a plus.

  • Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:
FHI 360 is currently working 100% remotely. A typical office environment might include the ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen; ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:
Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc.), Canva, Wordpress, Drupal, MailChimp, social media platforms, e-mail, and cell phones.

Travel Requirements:
10-20%

The expected US Basedhiringsalary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $65,000 - $77,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
