Overview

The Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled worker who maintains and repairs machinery in a plant or factory environment. The Maintenance Technician must be able to detect minor problems and correct them before they become major by using Preventive Maintenance techniques. Technical manuals, electrical diagrams, and special diagnostic equipment are also used to discover the cause of specific malfunctions.

Night Shift 

Responsibilities

  • Performs the responsibilities and tasks they are assigned with the general guidance of the Maintenance Site Leader and Maintenance Shift Leader.
  • Documents equipment discrepancies in accordance with shop standards.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working area and environment.
  • Requisitions parts for equipment breakdowns.
  • Uses equipment technical manuals.
  • Adheres to electrical safety standards.
  • Works closely with automation technicians or electricians who maintain the machine’s electronic components.
  • Use protective equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protectors and belts.
  • Examines work orders and converses with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance tasks using checklists to optimize machine inspections, such as checking, cleaning, and repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems.
  • Maintains equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, and tests.
  • Operates equipment to demonstrate proper use and to analyze malfunctions.
  • Adjusts working parts such as drive belts, pulleys, drive chains, and sprockets, using hand tools or power tools.
  • Scrapes and cleans units or parts using cleaning solvents and equipment such as buffing wheels.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Performs diagnostic procedures using multimeters, sensor testers, power supplies and other specialized equipment.
    • Troubleshoots equipment malfunction using factory authorized technical manuals and interprets basic electrical diagrams.
  • Personal Development:
    • Take on additional responsibilities and consistently demonstrate problem solving skills in order to move up within the company.
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metal working tools.
  • Tests faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment and software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
  • Inspects components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation and for defects such as loose connections and frayed wires.
  • Repairs and adjusts equipment, machines, and defective components, replacing worn parts such as gaskets and seals in watertight electrical equipment.
  • Repairs and rebuilds defective mechanical parts in electric motors, gearboxes and related equipment, using hand tools and power tools. Reads service guides to find information needed to perform repairs.
  • Solders, wraps, and coats wires to ensure proper insulation.
  • Welds, brazes, or solders electrical connections.
  • Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation and repair procedures.
  • Develop or modify industrial electronic devices, circuits, and equipment according to available specifications.
  • Measure velocity, horsepower, revolutions per minute (rpm), amperage, circuitry, and voltage of units or parts to diagnose problems, using ammeters, voltmeters, wattmeters, and other testing devices.
  • Reassemble repaired electric motors to specified requirements and ratings, using hand tools and electrical meters.
  • Rewire electrical systems, and repair or replace electrical accessories.
  • Inspect electrical connections, wiring, relays, charging resistance boxes, and storage batteries, following wiring diagrams.
  • Assemble electrical parts such as alternators, generators, starting devices, and switches, following schematic drawings and using hand, machine, and power tools.
  • Assists training and mentoring of new hires, Level I and Level II Maintenance Technicians to maintain a high quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level.
  • Calibrates and sets-up Variable Frequency and DC drives.
  • Uses problem solving skills effectively.
  • Stays actively busy throughout the day and documents all work performed daily.
  • Completes all preventative tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Follows the assigned schedule and is on the production floor with the radio at the start of each shift.
  • Follows attendance policy. Observes department call-in procedures. Exhibits timely arrival and departure and dependable time habits including meal and other breaks.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and gets along well with coworkers.
  • Exhibits teamwork and willingness to help others.
  • Follows dress code and maintains a professional appearance.
  • Can be relied upon to complete assigned tasks.
  • Complies with established Departmental and Organizational policies and procedures.
  • Works within a team environment to meet/exceed established production standards.
  • Requirements

    • Minimum 5 years work experience in a maintenance environment.
    • Must have good attention to detail. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
    • Good communications skills both written and verbal.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced maintenance environment.
    • Knowledge of industrial tools and test equipment.
    • Proven ability to repair industrial maintenance components such as motors, pumps, gearboxes, belt and chain driven components, etc.
    • Extensive knowledge and comprehension of PLC troubleshooting.
    • Ability to work overtime with little notice and be on-call before/after normal business hours.
