Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position involves working with Federal Bureau of Prisons offenders, which requires the job applicant to pass a thorough, federal background check conducted by Bureau of Prisons staff. 

  • Provide motivational support to assist counselors in meeting therapeutic goals. 
  • Support treatment plans by reporting client observations (at a minimum twice per shift and subject to change depending on need) – on appropriate form (SAMMS/Incident Report, etc.) - and supporting decisions concerning therapy, discipline, and privileges.
  • Assist case manager/counselor with client activities by implementing scheduled and/or requested activities.
  • Inventory incoming clothing and supplies of clients for quantity and specifically check for contraband items, in accordance with proper safety procedures - including but not limited to -emptying items into proper bin and never reaching into a client’s bag of articles. Inventory outgoing clothing and supplies of clients with same procedures as above. 
  • Obtain pertinent information from staff of previous shift to utilize during current shift and relay to next shift if appropriate.
  • Work cooperatively with members of the nursing and medical staff to monitor clients’ vital signs, observe urine drops, monitor clients, and chart all pertinent data. 
  • Monitor client vital signs per physician’s orders.
  • Monitor self-administration of medications by clients and document in SAMMS, MAR/PRN log according to regulations. 
  • Recognize deviations from normal and is able to correct the deviation.
  • Perform room and facility checks, at varying intervals, to ensure client’s comfort, safety, and well-being.
  • Supervise and manage the behavior of clients and provide appropriate behavioral interventions and consequences. 
  • Perform all drug screen services to clients, including but not limited to urine analysis and oral swabs.
  • Oversee the neatness of the unit and proper use of equipment and supplies and inform the proper person when supplies or repairs are needed.

Schedule: Flexible Schedule (30 hours per week)

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent is required.Bachelor’s in Psychology, Social Work, or counseling degree is preferred but not required. Master’s degree preferred, not required. Some working knowledge of ASAM clinical guidelines, DHS/SUPR contractual language and deliverable expectations, JCAHO/CARF guidelines, DEA, and CSAT rules, regulations and guidelines is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: IAODAPCA Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor (CADC) required. CADC is required 2 years from date of hire or transferred into position, dependent on experience. State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred, not required.
