Ferry County Health is Hiring a Medical Assistant (MA) Near Republic, WA

Open until filled

0.2 FTE: Fridays 8am to 5pm with the ability to accept additional shifts as needed but not to exceed an average schedule of 20/hours/week

JOB SUMMARY

Provides patient care in the office setting. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or provider. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and office policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with providers and team members about patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN/LPN/LVN and/or provider, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required under the MA scope of practice.
  • Ability to assist nursing and medical staff with routine examinations and patient treatments. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
  • Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
  • Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  • Ability to position and prep patients for office procedures.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers, providers and Office Manager.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist providers with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN/LPN/LVN and/or provider.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
  • Maintains infection prevention and control standards for exam/procedure rooms; cleans, disinfects, changes linen, etc.
  • Answers telephone calls in a professional manner, directs calls appropriately; refers patient problems to office provider; schedules patient appointments.
  • Maintains office instruments; knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators for sterilization.
  • Meets current documentation standards and policies.
  • Maintains established office policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with office standards.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by management within medical assistant’s scope of practice.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Actively checks and responds to emails throughout the day.
  • Completes all mandatory education within given timeframe.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.
  • Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
  • Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.
  • All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including not but limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program required.
  • Current Medical Assistant License in Washington State.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) preferred.
  • Current BLS certification.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
