Childcare Center Assistant Director
– Chino, CA 91710
Fern Academy Educational Childcare’s goal is to encourage a love of learning in children by thoughtfully designing and implementing developmentally appropriate, child-led activities that promote children to ask questions, experiment, and explore their world on a daily basis. We utilize constructivist theory and best practices from progressive curriculums like Piget, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori, as the primary resources for our curriculum development.

Responsibilities and Duties
As a leader for Fern Academy Educational Childcare, the Assistant Center Director will be responsible for managing and assisting all aspects of the child development program which encompasses but is not limited to:

•Forward copies of licensing reviews, fire inspections, and health department reviews to CFO immediately upon receipt.
•Seek prior approval from CFO before endorsing memorandum of understanding in regards to collaboration with other community funded agencies.
•Is the legal designee to send and/or receive legal documents (i.e. suspected child abuse reports, unusual incident reports, etc.)
•Accept and document donated goods and services.

Lines of Supervision: Provincial standards for child care programs (Child Care Licensing Regulation, AR 143/2008 and Family Day Home Standards Manual, July 2011) require that children are at all times under supervision that is effective in ensuring their safety, well-being, and development. All Fern Academy educators are responsible for making sure that no child is left unsupervised.
Minimum Requirements:
- Recording the actual arrival and departure times of children, including their arrival or departure from outside play or field trips
- Using a consistent system during head-counts or roll call (counts should be done during all transitions, including when children leave or return to their classroom, or enter or leave a vehicle);
- Establishing simple rules for children (for example, “when we are indoors, we walk”) - Maintaining staff to child ratios at all times
- Directing and closely monitoring children when carrying out activities that may involve some risk, such as playing near water, near doorways, or during transition times when children may gather in larger groups
- Observing play and anticipating what may happen next in order to assist children and intervene in the event of potential danger
-Report to Center Director for any potential danger
- Listening closely to children, even those who are not in the caregiver’s direct line of sight (such as those in outdoor play spaces or areas where children nap
- Monitoring children’s health to identify early signs of fever, illness, or unusual behavior;
-Watching and participating in children’s play to ensure that children are playing in a safe manner
Parent Connections/ Volunteer Involvement:
- Create a monthly calendar, flyers and newsletters or other method as a way of communicating to parents
-Complete parent orientation to include reviewing parent handbook, fees, health policies, illness, medication, immunization requirements, and volunteer expectations
-Responsible for conducting parent conferences and referral procedures
-Provide parent involvement and parent education opportunities.
-Recruit volunteers and provide an orientation plan.
License or Certification:
- CTC issued: Program Director (Preferred)
- EMSA CPR Certificate (Adult / Pediatrics / First-Aid), 15 hours Preventive Health Training Certificate,
- Live Scan clearance required prior hiring, Finger print clearance
- Provide ALL transcripts
- Proof of pertussis and measles immunizations
- Complete and pass CDSS Mandated Reporter Certification (needs to be current)
- Valid Driver’s License
