SUMMARY:
The Engineering Manager, New Product Development (NPD) position is responsible for two main functions. Lead and manage new product programs from project award to production transfer. Support business development and the commercial team with technical expertise in the quoting process and interaction with external customers. The Engineering Manager, NPD reports into the Executive Director, Engineering and functions as a strategic member of the site leadership team with matrixed (dotted-line) reporting into the site leader/plant manager.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Actively promote and drive a culture of safety within Spectrum Plastics.
2. Lead and Manage site engineering resources for the successful completion of new products and other engineering projects.
3. Plan and execute new projects to meet customer’s requirements in a cost effective, safe, and timely manner.
4. Ensure commercial success of the project.
5. Assist and support the Sales/Commercial teams in growing revenue; in particular, support applications engineering efforts such as quote assumptions in cycle times, process development times and/or material analysis where necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage and drive all facets of engineering projects including design, construction, automation, assemblies, process development, validation activities, documentation, training, and transfer to production.
2. Lead and manage technical team members including engineers, technicians, and other engineering resources (as applicable)
3. Establish and manage project schedules, delivery dates, and cost objectives. Communicate this information to internal and external customers.
4. Lead the cross-functional team of quality, tooling engineering, supply chain, operations, manufacturing engineering, and external resources (capital equipment suppliers, outside processors, automation contractors, etc.) to deliver projects per the customer’s expectations and to Spectrum Plastic’s commitments.
5. Work closely with sales, accounting, and management to make regular and timely commercial updates on assigned projects for both the recurring revenue and the non-recurring engineering (NRE) components.
6. Responsible for change management and ensuring that scope creep is managed regarding project timeline and to ensure the commercial success of the project.
7. Ensure that there is a successful hand-off of the new product projects to the production team. Be available to support the project as the subject matter expert after the project has been handed-off to manufacturing.
8. Provide engineering and manufacturing guidance on new projects. Activities include, but are not limited to, part and tooling design, processing, and material expertise.
9. Assist in the quoting process with tooling, processing, and equipment for new projects as required.
10. Performs all other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for moderate periods of time in an office and factory setting. Regular use of hand tools, micrometers, and microscopes is required. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, will regularly lift up to 20 pounds, and occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
